After the incredible and unexpected reveal of Joker, the main character from Persona 5, fans of the Super Smash Bros franchise have seen the game skyrocket in popularity and quality. Along with Joker, we have seen Hero, from the Dragon Quest series, Banjo & Kazooie, a first time representative of Microsoft, and Terry Bogard of SNK’s beloved Fatal Fury fighting games. It truly looked like Smash Bros. was becoming a bigger and bigger crossover game, including tons of playable characters that originated from other franchises; however, with the reveal of Byleth, another character from Fire Emblem, many were quite disappointed as it was one of Nintendo’s own characters to finish off the first wave of DLC fighters.
Similarly, the first fighter of the second DLC fighter was Min Min from ARMS, another Nintendo representative, which turned out to receive a mediocre reveal. With these new additions, the outlook for the next wave of DLC fighters being different started to look down; however, on October 1, Nintendo revealed the 7th DLC fighter which came with a bang in the form of Steve, the protagonist of Minecraft. This was by far the most unexpected and boldest move yet by Nintendo and the Smash Bros. team. Fans had requested Steve to join the games for years, ever since the beginning of the first DLC wave, and so, to see him in the largest fighting crossover ever, it was a dream to many. According to some sources, Steve had been talked about for over 5 years, well before Ultimate, the latest entry in Smash Bros., was released. With Steve, Microsoft’s second rep in Smash, fully in the game, fans are now looking forward to the next DLC fighters with more hope that other 3rd party fighters may be coming to the game.
