Artist Highlight is a place for artists within the high school to share their work in order for them to express themselves through a specific medium. Digital graphic design, sculpting, painting, drawing, photography, and much more are accepted mediums for this page! Feel free to contact us if you are interested in your artwork being featured in the next edition.
This is Emma Walker’s piece, “Falling.” She drew this piece to show “the theme of… bottling emotions and how it can build to a certain degree.” Emma, now a junior, wants “others to be able to relate and see themselves” in her artwork. This piece was made during an art class she took in her sophomore year here at Newington High School. She elaborates on the symbolism of her drawing, saying “The black and white represents the draining of color, or in this case, strength and courage.” Emma wants people to know that “there is a world full of color,” and that they should try to look around and realize the brilliance of what’s around them. Emma has been drawing as long as she can remember. Ever since she could hold a pencil she “started drawing pretty much anything.” Through her art, Emma finds an outlet to express herself and let out any emotions. Her grandmother is her inspiration who “has always been drawing and painting.” Emma’s grandmother “started teaching me art at a young age, and ever since then, it’s been my passion.”
