Biology is a year-long exploration of Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) which includes the concepts of matter and energy in living systems, system dynamics and homeostasis, inheritance and variability, natural selection, and sustainability. This course integrates the 3-Dimensional Design process established in the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). The three dimensions of the NGSS are the cross cutting concepts, the science and engineering practices, and the disciplinary core ideas. Lessons are designed using a version of the 5E model which includes the following components: Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate and Evaluate. Students engage in various learning activities, including but not limited to, hands-on and virtual labs, engineering design projects, model building, and inquiry based activities. Students will acquire scientific knowledge and skills through the investigation of real world problems and phenomena.
