AP English Language and Composition is an introduction to the study of rhetoric in a variety of nonfiction and fiction texts. Composition (both timed and untimed) is an integral aspect of this college-level course and includes expository, analytical, creative, and argument/synthesis writing assignments. While the main focus of our reading is non-fiction, students will also be exposed to classic texts from the standard grade 11 curriculum, such as Macbeth and Lord of the Flies. This work prepares students for the critical reading and analysis that is necessary for success on the AP English Language and Composition exam, which is administered in May. Students may be awarded either college credit or advanced placement depending upon the individual college involved and the scores earned on the exam.
