Through problems that engage and challenge, students explore a broad range of engineering topics, including mechanisms, the strength of structures and materials, and automation. Students develop skills in problem solving, research, and design while learning strategies for design process documentation, collaboration, and presentation. This course is project based and collaborative. Among other projects, student teams will design a machine to provide a specific mechanical advantage, design an electric circuit to power a LED flashlight, and program a Vex robot using the RobotC programming language. The projects in this class require critical thinking, creativity, and mathematical concepts from algebra I and geometry. Students have the opportunity to earn college credit as a result of this class.
