The Clock (in bronzes and black) and The Moon (in purple with silver highlights) was conceived at the very beginning of our design meetings. The final version was actually developed with an art/theatre student (Josie Genuardi, '19) for the logo and then adapted to the set. We wanted something to center and stabilize the upstage, give another "landing" for actors, and provide another space for gears and wheels. It was also a metaphor for time and night as experienced in Midsummer and in Steam Punk. We hoped to make the hands functional and have the fairies change the time throughout the play, but it became cumbersome to make the hands work smoothly and disrupted the flow of the action. So, the idea was scraped in the fall and again preparing for the International Thespian Festival. Unfortunately, when ITF recorded it from the balcony of the Kimball, some of the clock/moon was lost! The lighting designers had a wonderful time creating different looks for the Clock/Moon with the LED and other lighting. Seen from the floor of the theatre, it became a character in the show.
