On Tuesday, November 10 and Thursday, November 12, 2020 the Norwin High School Library held an event for students and staff to learn how to use the Cricut Maker along with the Design Space software. In addition to having a lot of fun, I was able to gather some ideas on how our school community can make use of our library's Cricut in the school curriculum. Below are artifacts from the event.
Materials set out for student and teacher makers
Neat design created, cut, and weeded all in 1 study hall period!
Iron-on design to be placed on a t-shirt
Student starting to weed a cut vinyl design
Creating in Design Space
Weeding vinyl decal to place on mug
Finished decal on mug
Library ad encouraging study hall students create!
Depending on whether an event participant decided to make a permanent vinyl decal or an iron-on decal, they received one set of instructions posted below. Please feel free to make a copy to edit.
I also asked teachers and students to complete a survey when they were done creating their vinyl decal. 100% of participants said that they would use the Cricut again for a school, club, and personal project. Several participants already owned a Cricut but came to learn a few Design Space tips or asked for help in creating a design using a new material that they had never used before. Two adult participants also mentioned that they would now like to purchase their own Cricut Maker to use for personal projects or activities in the community. 100% of participants also rated Design Space software, the Cricut Maker machine, and the consumables all to be relatively easy to use.
