This page will include updates on the things that we are learning in the classroom. You will find the language used, strategies learned, and ideas on how to reinforce these topics at home with your Kindergartener.
Kindergarteners explored different careers with centers. They had to identify the tools that each job uses, identify what each career makes, draw to complete the scene for different jobs, and use play dough to create their tools.
This week, we learned that a warning is telling an adult when someone is sick, hurt, or in danger. When we tell on someone for anything else, it is tattling.
We have been brainstorming a list of ways to be kind to each other at school!
We learned that it is important to be kind because it shows people that we care. Student had the opportunity to identify kind vs unkind acts with a cut and sort.
This week in kindergarten we learned what it means to be kind. We practiced by giving compliments to our classmates.
We are learning to pay attention with our eyes, ears, and brains. We practiced this with a game called "Slap, Clap, Stomp." The students had to watch and listen to the pattern I made with these actions and repeat the rhythm.
This week, we learned how to use self-affirmations to feel good about ourselves! We created these crafts to help us remember to say these things to ourselves in the mirror more often.
This week we are talking about what it means to feel calm and some ways to help us feel calm. Ask your child what they can do to calm down. We learned "cookie breathing" "snake breathing" "slow breathing" and slow counting.
This week, we are discussing how to identify anger by the way someone's face and body look. We also consider what is happening in the situation.
Today, we identified what sadness means and identified examples of different emotions. We always remind ourselves, "All feelings are OK. All behaviors are NOT."
This week we learned what it means to feel comfortable. We talked about the meaning of happy, proud, and excited and how these are comfortable feelings. Sometimes, being excited can give us extra energy. We can take deep breaths to help us feel calm when we get excited.
This week we read "The Way I Feel" and talked about different emotion words and what zone they would be in!
This week we watched a read aloud called "Color Monster". This book introduces feelings and assigning different colors to each feeling. At NES, we use the zones of regulation to categorize feelings into the blue zone, yellow zone, green zone, and red zone. This ties feelings in with energy levels.
This week students entered my room for the first time. I explained what a school counselor is and what kind of things we will learn in here!
