This page will include updates on the things that we are learning in the classroom. You will find the language used, strategies learned, and ideas on how to reinforce these topics at home with your 4th grader.
Students learned about the skills needed for a variety of careers and created their own career plans based on their interests and strengths.Â
4th graders learned how to be active listeners with their peers. They were tasked with telling a story to a partner and taking turns reflecting back on what they heard.
In 4th grade, we are learning how to see someone else's point of view. We practiced with partners to identify the different thoughts and feelings in each situation.
We all love to joke around sometimes, but some jokes aren't funny. We learned how to respond when someone says a hurtful joke. We also learned some questions to ask ourselves to decide if a joke is hurtful or fun.
Students had to present what they worked on in the last class this week. They shared with the class some questions to ask themselves, ways to think more positively about a not-so-great situation, and why it is essential to calm down strong emotions. Prompt them to rethink the situation when your 4th grader shares a negative thought.
This week, we are reviewing how to rethink a situation to feel better. Students work in groups to think about questions to ask themselves and positive ways to think about fictional scenarios.
This week we learned that "Rethinking" is a coping skill. We can think differently about a situation by asking ourselves 1. What Really Happened? 2. What is 1 good thing that happened? 3. Has this happened to anyone else?
4th graders come to my room every other Tuesday during their math/science block of the day. We reviewed class expectations and learned how to complete a feelings check-in. At the beginning of each class, students are expected to identify their feelings by shading in an emoji and writing at least one emotion on the line.
