The following are sites and videos that will be used either in ELA class or in the 30-minute homeroom block at the beginning of the day, two days a week.
The video to the left is the first in a series of videos showing students how to begin writing in cursive. Though many of us may have learned cursive by only learning the letters themselves, this program begins with an approach similar to many modern programs for printing... and even calligraphy!
Simply put, this program takes cursive writing, breaks it down into the most basic strokes, and teaches those to students, allowing students to get a feel for the flow or writing before teaching the individual letters and words. Students do learn some letters and words after learning each of the basic strokes and getting time to practice them.
The rest of the lessons are online as well, and should appear in the video queue after the video has played (or in a list to the side of the screen). Feel free to practice at home!
This website offers interactive practice with many of the standards for fourth grade ELA, including reading, writing, and language standards. It is a great resource for practicing skills from the classroom. Some of the skills are even broken down into simpler parts (such as the main idea of a bulleted list) before introducing the slightly harder version (such as finding the main idea for a passage).
The site breaks the standards down into four main areas of help, which are listed as such: Reading Strategies, Writing Strategies, Vocabulary, and Grammar & Mechanics.
Note: The site has more than just ELA standards on it. It also has practice for Science, Social Studies, and Mathematics, as well as catering to a variety of grade levels. However, you are only allowed a certain number of daily practice questions for free.
