Greetings!
Welcome to a new school year! This year in 4th grade ELA, or Language Arts, students will engage in literature (fiction) and informational (nonfiction) texts. Engaging in these texts means that students will read the text, write about the text, speak about the text, and listen to materials related to the text (which could be something like watching and responding to a video clip or movie, doing a skit or demonstration in front of the class, or listening and responding to their classmates' thoughts, opinions, or connections to the texts). These four activities encompass the four components of Language Arts: Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking. These skills help students learn and build language skills, and help to prepare them for the test at the end of the year.
Please note that while students only have me for an approximately an hour each day (as opposed to the double-block of Reading & Writing time that they are accustomed to having), I still have to teach Reading & Writing. Therefore, I am only going to be doing either a Reading Unit or a Writing Unit at a time, and grades in ProgressBook will reflect the back-and-forth between the two.
If you would like to place a Scholastic Order online, please use the following link, and I would be happy to get the order to you and/or your child!

If you would prefer to use my code, it is TTBNT.
Thank you! Your purchase helps me earn rewards to add new books to my growing classroom library.
The students' agendas are updated weekly with the assignments that pertain to the unit we are studying, the skills we will be focusing on, and the Language Arts homework that has been assigned for the week. Additional materials that students are working on, including skill work, will be included both under the Reading Unit -> Name of the Story we are working on as well as in their Reading Folders. Through the Resources tab, you can access resources such as videos and PowerPoints (Google Slides), for specific skills. Please feel free to contact me (at one of the methods listed below) with any questions.
We as a fourth grade team want to remain in contact with you, the parents and/or guardians, so please check that you got a Remind invitation. Remind is a great way to get in contact with us, as are our emails. These email addresses and the Remind app will be the primary means of communication between teachers and parents at this time. Our emails are listed here for your convenience:
Sabrina Brandenburg (English Language Arts) - sabrandenburg@norwayne.net
Donna Eggleston (Science) - deggleston@norwayne.net
Terri Hall (Social Studies) - tehall@norwayne.net
Brian Miller (Math) - brmiller@norwayne.net
All assignments for the fourth grade team will be available online. This includes hard copies handed out during class time. Assignments may be completed in hard copy or digitally (students have learned to use Kami, which is an extension that allows students to edit PDF documents), and they may be turned in as a hard copy or a digital copy. You can even take a picture of a hard copy assignment and submit it via classroom or through email. Assignments will receive a grade unless otherwise stated. If your teacher wants you to return a hard copy of an assignment, they will explain which assignments they want turned in and will contact you to set up dates/times for you to collect these items from Norwayne Elementary School.
In the event that a grade level would have to quarantine, teachers will all have office hours, which will be posted on the individual teacher's Google Classroom and updated below. The minimum number of hours we are expected to be online helping students, ready to answer questions, is eight hours per week. This doesn't mean we will only be on for eight hours per week; it is just the minimum guideline the teachers have been given. Please refer to Google Classroom for final notices on Office Hours, as they may change for district professional development, etc.*
Sabrina Brandenburg (English Language Arts) - TBA
Donna Eggleston (Science) - TBA
Terri Hall (Social Studies) - TBA
Brian Miller (Math) - TBA
* Office hours may change slightly depending on the week.
Below I will attach information about how to get signed onto Google Classroom, in case the paper was lost.
