Chromebook Coverage
New for 2023-2024:
We are offering optional Chromebook Insurance through Securranty that covers accidental damage and more to fully protect the Chromebook and its charger.
What is TYPICALLY Covered by NWCS?
Hardware and Software Coverage:
The school will cover hardware repairs or replacements necessary due to manufacturing defects or normal wear and tear during the course of regular use. Software issues related to the Chromebook's operating system or educational software provided by the school will also be covered.
Technical Support:
The school will provide technical support for Chromebook-related issues during school hours (8:00 am - 3:00 pm). This includes assistance with software installations, troubleshooting, and general maintenance. Students should come into the technology office Room A119, contact TechHelp@northwarrencsd.org or call 518-494-3015 for technical assistance.
Accidental Damage Protection:
The school will provide limited coverage for accidental damages that occur during school-related activities, such as classroom instruction, study groups, or authorized school events. Accidental damages may include minor drops, spills, or damage caused by normal use within the school premises. It is the responsibility of the student to report the incident promptly to the school administration or technology support.
Loaner Devices:
In the event that a student's Chromebook requires extensive repairs or replacement, the school may provide a loaner device to ensure uninterrupted access to educational resources. The loaner device will be issued on a temporary basis until the student's Chromebook is repaired or replaced.
What is NOT Covered?
Intentional or Willful Damage:
Damages caused intentionally or through willful misconduct are not covered. This includes but is not limited to, deliberate destruction, tampering, or any action that violates the manufacturer's guidelines or user agreement.
Accidental Liquid Spills:
Any damages resulting from accidental spills of liquids, such as water, coffee, or other beverages, are not covered. It is the responsibility of the user to exercise caution and take appropriate measures to prevent such accidents.
Physical Abuse or Negligence:
Damages caused by physical abuse, mishandling, dropping, or any form of negligence are not covered. Users are expected to handle the Chromebook with reasonable care and take necessary precautions to protect it from potential damage.
Unauthorized Repairs or Modifications:
Any damages caused by unauthorized repairs, modifications, or alterations made to the Chromebook, including but not limited to hardware upgrades, software modifications, or removal of manufacturer labels, will void the warranty or insurance coverage.
Loss or Theft:
Loss or theft of a Chromebook is not covered. Users are responsible for the safekeeping of their device and should take appropriate measures to prevent its loss or theft, such as using security features like password protection and physical locks.
Wear and Tear:
Normal wear and tear, including but not limited to scratches, dents, fading, or minor cosmetic damage that does not affect the functionality of the Chromebook, is not covered. This exclusion applies to both warranty and insurance claims.
Software or Data Loss:
Loss of software, data, or personal files due to any cause, including but not limited to hardware failure, viruses, malware, or user error, is not covered. Users are responsible for regularly backing up their data using Google Drive to protect against potential loss.
Hardware Costs
It is possible for parents and guardians to receive mail detailing damages or losses and the associated expenses of their students assigned device. The letter will provide information about the specific damages, the associated expenses, and instructions on how to address the situation, such as arranging for payment or filing an insurance claim.
