Day 1-3: The 8th Grade Woodworking Course begins with a safety discussion and project discussion. Both handouts need to be signed by a parent and the student. The signatures give permission to the student to participate in the course and also promise responsibility on the part of the student with respect to safety and the cost of projects.
Day 4-8: Students receive demonstrations/reviews on the band saw, scroll saw, disc sander, spindle sander, router table, palm sander, and clamping and fastening. Then students receive a safety review handout and prepare to take the machines/tools safety assessment if they did not in 7th grade.
Day 9-30: After passing the safety assessment, students choose a project and begin building while reading the project instructions. Upon completion of the first project, students are evaluated and then move on to a second project of their choice. All projects are assessed and students take part in the evaluation of their skills. Some students make more than two projects.
