The library was built in 1883 and dedicated in 1885. Built of Hallowell granite, it is a copy of the Hallowell public library except the main floor is 4 feet longer.
Israel Jr. wrote to his brothers to raise funds for the library. A letter written June 18, 1882, reads, “I send you today a photograph of the library building at Hallowell. I think it is very near what would be desirable at Livermore.
