The City of Newport News is looking for motivated high school students to help affect change in our community. Students have the opportunity to take a seat at the table and help make Newport News a better place. Apply to serve on one (or two!) of the following Boards or Commissions:

  • The Mayor's Youth Commission
  • Newport News Arts Commission
  • Newport News Human Rights Commission
  • Newport News Public Library Board of Trustees

A City Representative will be present at lunch September 17th with applications and more information!

Attention Seniors- Parking passes and off-campus passes will be available this week during all 3 lunches! If you already have your off-campus pass, you may leave for lunch starting today. Security officers will be checking passes on your way out. If you are unable to get your off-campus or parking pass by this Friday, you will need to see Dr. Ford by appointment.

FRESHMEN: Interested in service and school spirit? Join the Student Council Association! Applications are available now in room C151 and are due on Friday the 13th.

Any Freshman that wishes to become a Freshman Class Officer should see Mrs. Bolinger or the main office for an application.

There will be a financial aid workshop at Warwick High School on Thursday, September 26th from 6:00-8:00pm in their auditorium, for anyone interested in learning more. If you have any questions, please see Ms. Simon in the main counseling office.

Attention Seniors: Old Dominion University is coming on September 24th at 9:00am; Hollis University will be here on September 24th at 1:00pm, and the University of Mary Washington is coming on September 26th at 9:00am. If you would like to sign up, please see Ms. White in the main counseling office.

Seniors: If you are going off campus for lunch (with the Required Off Campus Pass), you must return to the building by the following times:

o 1st lunch-10:30

o 2nd lunch-11:25

o 3rd lunch- 12:15.

Set in London during the Blitz, when the Germans were bombing the city, a number of struggling individuals and families come to terms with the devastating emotional and socio-economic impact of war on the homefront. If you would love to play a character that faces this stark reality, then come see us in Woodside’s theater immediately after school to audition for the fall play, Front. No prior acting experience is required. Buses are available. Good luck & break a leg!

Can you commit 1 ½ hours a month to represent the students from Woodside on a division wide committee? If you answered yes to all of these questions, then you many want to apply for membership on the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Group on Education, also known as S.A.G.E., with Dr. Parker. There will be a meeting for all ladies interested in playing Varsity and JV Basketball in room C148 tomorrow right after school.

All 8th block Economics and Personal Finance classes will have an introductory meeting on Monday, September 16th. This is a mandatory meeting for all 8th block economics and personal finance classes. We will be meeting in room C242 at 2:15. Please be on time!

If you are interested in traveling to Central Europe (Berlin, Prague, Budapest and Krakow) with Frau Sommermeyer over Spring Break 2020, please come to our Recruitment Meeting on Sept. 12 at 6:30pm in C150. If you are unable to attend and need info for the scholarship, please stop by Frau’s room this week.

Any senior who would like to take the ASVAB test on November 12, 2019 should come to the school counseling office and sign up. There are only 55 slots for students.

Congratulations to the Varsity football team for winning their 2nd game of the season Saturday, Sept. 7th against Norview High!

Our Notable players were:

Kahleef Jimmerson with 46 passing yards, 132 rushing yards and 3 TouchDowns

Ricky Key had 3 catches for 46 yards and 1 TouchDown

Tyler Thompson had 8 carries for 110yards and 2 TouchDowns

Bryce Phipps had 20 rushes for 74 yards

If you’re not on the list, still check the final Cast List to see if your name in on there. Not seeing your name on the callback list isn’t necessarily an indicator you are not cast. All applications are due back by 2:20pm on September 25th. Late applications will not be considered for membership.

Congratulations to our Woodside Men’s & Women’s Volleyball teams last night. The girls defeated Heritage in all 3 sets and the boys won 3 sets to 1. Both teams are still undefeated in district play.

Please come out to support your Woodside football team tonight against Denbigh High School at Todd Stadium at 7:00pm. The Woodside football is also undefeated in district play.

Are you interested in FBLA? Get an after school pass from your Business Teacher and come to the FBLA interest meeting Monday in Room C241. Snacks will be provided.

Anyone wanting to stay after for Art Club should stop by B124 for an after school pass for Monday.
