Thursday, October 3rd

Attention Seniors: The following colleges and universities will be at Woodside on the following dates:

  • George Mason University on October 9th at 1:00pm
  • Sweetbriar College on Oct. 10 at 10:00am
  • Randolph College on October 21st at 9:00am
  • University of Mary Washington on Oct. 24th at 9:30am.

Please see Ms. White in the main counseling office to sign up.

PAC will have its first meeting on Oct 11 in the Woodside Room during flex. If you are a PAC member please stop by the office to RSVP with Mrs. Giles for the meeting.

If you picked up an application for the National Spanish Honor Society, be sure to drop it off by tomorrow to Mrs. Mock’s room in A211 or in Ms. Hart’s Box in the office.

The PSAT will be administered on Wednesday, October 16th to all sophomores and juniors! Each student should use the practice workbook that you received in your English class to prepare for this test! A strong performance on this exam could qualify you for scholarship opportunities. Please be sure to come prepared on Oct 16th with a calculator and #2 pencils. You are allowed to use a calculator on the math portion of the test but you MUST bring your own. Calculators will not be supplied and cell phones are NOT approved for use! Please see your English teacher or your school counselor if you have any questions!

Swimmers and Divers: there will be an informational meeting after school on October 8th in room C147. You need to get a purple pass from Coach Prentiss in the Down-C teacher’s work area in the morning before 7:10 or from Coach Reed in C147. See the Swimming and Diving flyers in the hallway.

The Freshman class will not be meeting after school today.

GEAR UP Virginia is now open to any senior at Woodside!! There are a limited number of openings, and students will be accepted on a first come/ first serve basis. As a member of GEAR UP, students are eligible for a one-time scholarship up to $5000. Stop by your school counselor's office or the main counseling office to pick up the GEAR UP registration form. Return the signed registration form to the main school counseling office ASAP!

Attention all French Honor Society applicants: Applications are due no later than Friday, October 11. Place your completed application in Madame Berry’s box in the front office. No late applications will be accepted. If you are a French III or French IV student and would like to apply, please see Madame Berry in A-Down before the first bell.

As a part of our continued investment in the student body at Woodside High School and to develop an atmosphere of responsibility, the counseling department seeks to highlight the character trait of RESPONSIBILITY for the month of October. Responsibility is…caring, defending, helping, building, protecting, and sustaining. You are accountable for treating other people justly and fairly, for honoring other living things, and for being environmentally aware.

We will also honor distinguished students who exhibit the characteristics of RESPONSIBILITY. Please email Katina Davis a brief paragraph of a student who has exhibited and demonstrated a mature understanding of the characteristic RESPONSIBILITY by Friday, October 11.

The first International Club meeting will be held on Monday, October 14 in Room A211. Bring your $5 dues and ideas about what country you will want to share about during this school year.

There will be no YVC meeting today.

Monday, October 28th

Key Club members: Please pay dues to Mr. Platt in Room A204 before October 31st. Also, if you have not signed up for Key Club Remind, please check the bulletin Board in front of room A209 for information on how to sign up. Our next club meeting is October 28th in the Library.

Our first Magnet Showcase Night is coming up on Tuesday Oct. 29th. Each of our magnet programs will be represented. Performances will start at 6:30pm in the cafeteria for a $2.00 admission. Come support your friends as they perform during Magnet Showcase Night. Refreshments will be served.

All Pro Dads is a great program that allows all Woodside Fathers/Father Figures/Adult Male Role Models a chance to foster positive relationships with their son/daughter or mentee. So join us on November 15th in the Woodside Cafeteria for this event. If you need an RSVP form feel free to come to the main office and pick one up. All forms are due on November 12th by 10:00am.

How would you like to spend a month this summer on a college campus? The Summer Residential Governor’s School is looking for applicants to participate in one of their 4-week summer programs. This opportunity is offered to students in 10th and 11th grade who have a GPA of 3.4 or higher. Programs include Dance, Instrumental Music, Vocal Music, Theatre and Visual Art, Math, Science, Agriculture and Humanities. The Summer Governor’s Foreign Language School offers immersion programs in French, German, Spanish, Japanese and Latin. Some of the colleges that participate are Virginia Tech, Radford, and VCU. Flyers are being posted with more information. Please see Mrs. Keyes in A215 or Mrs. Thaler in B134 if interested.

Odyessy of the mind will be holding try outs in room B124 on the 12th and 14th. Interested students will need to stop by Mrs. Bogan in room B124 for an after school pass.

Indoor track conditioning will be held on Thursday, October 31st at Woodside High School from 6:30-8:00pm. Meet with Coach Gary in front of the gymnasium for conditioning. You must have a physical on file to participate. Once again, you must have a physical on file to participate.

Anyone interested in playing baseball in the spring? Please see Coach Hare in room A208 or Coach Gould in room A205 or Coach Trotter in the gym for a flex pass to attend a baseball interest meeting on Friday during flex. Any students planning on playing baseball in the spring must attend the meeting on Friday.

Congratulations to all who performed at Tuesday's Magnet Showcase Night! We are so proud of your performances! Shout out to the amazing magnet teachers who supported the event! See you all at the Holiday Arts Happening on Dec. 5th.

All 8th Block Economics and Personal Finance classes will be meeting on Monday, November 4th at 2:15. Shorter’s class will be in C242, Lester’s class will be in C151, and Costello’s class will be in B222. This is a MANDATORY MEETING!
