Utilizing practice tracks is essential to your success in choir.
One of the biggest expectations of putting together challenging music is your commitment to learning your voice part. We will always learn music together in class, but then it is your responsibility to memorize your specific harmony part on your own.
To help you succeed in this, I frequently upload videos to this website OR google classroom of isolated voice parts. You can find playlists of your parts HERE or on your choir's google classroom!
How do I know what voice part i sing?
Voice parts are divisions of singers within a choir. If you are new to choir, Ms. Francis will assign you to section depending on your vocal range during the first week or so of the new school year. In middle school, we only ever sing in 2 or 3 parts!
HIGH VOICES (often called "part 1"): high to middle voice range, which typically carries the main melody in a choral arrangement.
LOW VOICES (often called "part 2"): middle to low voice range, which typically provides harmonies.
How do I know how to practice?
Practicing is extremely important in performing ensembles! It is expected that members of NMS’s chorus dedicate some time outside of school to review parts and material in the music. With this, we spend less time in rehearsal reteaching notes and rhythms, but work together to unify our sound!
Look at your music! - Bring your music and folder home to make sure you are performing the right lyrics, notes, and rhythms! Mark up your music with spots you are struggling with!
Listening to Recordings! - I will provide resources on this website AND on Google Classroom! This may be in the form of me performing isolated parts to sing along and listen to, or give examples of other performing groups on YouTube
Pay attention during chorus rehearsal! - Make sure you are present, focused, and prepared for rehearsal! If you are focused and ready in the classroom, practicing will be a breeze :)
