Happy Summer to all our wonderful families at Beachy Cove Elementary.
Like many years, this year has had its share of ups and downs. But, regardless of what was happening here in our building, our entire staff, including teachers, guidance counsellors, specialists, instructional resource teachers, student assistants, teaching and learning assistants, itinerants, custodial staff, cafeteria staff, and bus drivers, continually came together to support the learners here at Beachy Cove. As we switch now from "school mode" to "summer mode", please know that we are thinking of you and your children, and are very thankful for all of your support throughout the year. We truly couldn't do it without you and your commitment to our school/
We'd also like to take this opportunity to thank our amazing year-round volunteers who make everything we do all the more manageable.
Thank you to Ms. Paulette, Ms. Kim, and their fantastic team of parking lot volunteers. Knowing that such wonderful and caring individuals were there every single day, regardless of the terrible weather, made such a difference. Often a learner’s first interaction of the day sets the tone for how the day will go and having them there, with a hello and a smile makes all the difference.
We'd also like to thank Lynn Ash, Sarah Lush, Joni Barbour, and the incredible group of individuals that helped make our breakfast program the success it is. Three days a week, our learners were able to avail of breakfast here at school and it’s was all possible due to the tireless efforts of this crew. We appreciate all that you do to ensure our learners have full bellies and hearts at the start of their day!
Pouce, our awesome Puma mascot, also depends on the generosity of volunteers that help make the magic happen! Our learners work collectively toward their class Pouce Parties and we’re so glad that our volunteers are able to make that happen. Learners also take such pride in their individual Pounce Paws and we’re excited for an updated version coming in September!
We've like to also thank our "Lost & Found" volunteers Kim and Laura who spend countless hours going through our seemingly endless pile of lost items. These selfless humans also take the items home to organize and post in their Facebook group. If there's an item your child has misplaced this year, keep an eye there to see if it pops up.
Thanks as well to our dedicated school council, who were there every step of the way as we navigated a new year of learning and growing together!
We also forgot to thank Whale’s Back convenience this past week for their donation of balloons for our Kindergarten concert. We couldn’t let the year go without making sure they were recognized for that kind gesture.
We do have one small thing left to ask. The provincial government is continuing to see feedback on the new School Food Program that was launched earlier this spring to better understand families' experiences and to identify areas of improvement. If you'd like to provide your feedback, you can do so HERE.
We hope everyone has a wonderful summer with friends and family. We look forward to reconnecting with you all in September. The first day of classes for our learners will be Wednesday, September 3rd. To help you prepare for the 2025-2026, supply lists will be posted to our website early next week.
Thank you, as always, for your support and kindness this past year,
The BCE Administration Team
Good Evening Families
In anticipation of the 2025-2026 school year, we wanted to send along some reminders about busing to ensure you have everything you need for September. Questions regarding busing can be directed to Mme Heidi Nixon (heidinixon@nlschools.ca) or Mme Tammy Manor (tammymanor@nlschools.ca).
We recognize that courtesy seats, including different stops on the same bus route, are essential for our families, and we will work through the courtesy busing process as quickly as we can. We will begin accepting applications early in September. More information about the application process will be sent to families during the first week of school.
The policy, linked here, gives families the opportunity to submit applications until the second Friday of the school year. We will be unable to process any courtesy seat applications until after Friday, Sept.12th to ensure we have all applications submitted. Please do not submit any applications until we inform you of the process in the fall.
Please keep in mind the following information regarding the courtesy seat process.
All learners can travel on the designated bus found in Bus Planner only until the courtesy seat applications have been approved. Please login to Bus Planner as soon as possible to ensure you have everything ready for the fall. The only exception to this rule is for learners who live in two separate homes (e.g., separated familie). If both addresses are not represented in Bus Planner, please contact us in the fall so we can update our records.
You will need to create an account the first time you access the Bus Planner online portal. Bus Planner requires your child’s student ID when creating an account - this can be found on your child’s upcoming report card. Emails with Bus Planner information, including student numbers will be sent home to new Kindergarten students in the week before classes begin (last week in August).
Once your child has been awarded a courtesy seat, the seat on the original bus is relinquished for the year. Should circumstances change, you will need to contact the office directly to make arrangements.
Bus routes for the 2025-2026 school year will not be finalized until later in the summer and so we are unable to confirm which bus your child will take right now.
Notes for Kindergarten:
Kindergarten students will not travel on the bus on Wednesday, September 3rd.
Busing for our Kindergarten learners will begin on Thursday, September 4th.
Please keep an eye for your Bus Planner email at the end of August to verify which bus your child will be assigned to.
You will need to notify your child’s teacher whether you will be picking them up or sending them in advance, preferably before the start of the day.
Remember that until courtesy seating is in place, students can only travel on the bus designated in Bus Planner.
Bus drivers are not permitted to drop off Kindergarten students unless there is an adult there to receive them. Should there be no one there, the bus driver will contact the school and will bring the student back to the school.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Should you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. As always, once routes are finalized for the 2025-2026 school year, you can direct concerns about the bus routes or specific stops to NLSchools Transportation using the “Public Inquiry Form”.
Have a great evening,
The BCE Administation Team
Good Evening,
We've been asked by our community partners to send along a final reminder regarding parking for tomorrow's Kindergarten concert.
Parking for any school-wide events, including concerts, has to abide by the following restriction: East facing roadside is not available for parking, from civic address # 162 east to the intersection of Witch Hazel Road. To clarify, the east facing roadside is the side farthest away from the school (heading toward the Bell Island Ferry when driving). Vehicles parked along this section of Beachy Cove Rd will be ticketed and/or towed.
We respectfully ask that if you will be attending a large-scale event at Beachy Cove that you abide by the above parking regulations. While it would mean a little walk for our visitors, there is additional space for parking alongside Goat Cove Lane and Patricia Dr. Again, we ask that you park on one side only of these roads to keep them clear for vehicular traffic as well. We also recommend car pooling wherever possible.
By keeping our town's traffic flow in mind during these events, we can ensure an uninterrupted performance for our leaners :)
Thank you,
The BCE Administration
Good Evening,
As this year draws to a close, we are beginning to turn our attention to 2025-2026. We truly appreciate our volunteers and want to make the process as easy and efficient as possible so we can get you in and helping our school as soon as possible!
All school volunteers need a Criminal Records Screening Certificate & Vulnerable Sector Check through the RNC. As these do take some time to process, we thought we'd get a jump on things and send home the Google Form for interested families to complete now so that everything is ready to go in September. We've had some situations this year where families missed out on the opportunity to help since the forms had not yet been received by the school. We don't want that to happen to anyone next year!
If you are interested in helping in any capacity, including attending field trips, helping in the library, being a part of our super popular breakfast program, coaching a school team, or helping in our parking lot, we encourage you to completed this linked Google Form by the end of the day on Monday, June 23.
Thank you so much for your consideration. We know we're only as successful as our volunteers and we'd love to have you as part of the team :)
Thank you,
The BCE Administration Team
Good Evening,
Please click the link to view our most recent family memo with important end of the year information, including messages from Ms. Gosse and Ms. Lethbridge.
For your planning purposes, our last day of school is Thursday, June 26. We will dismiss at 12:30. School will reopen for our learners on Wednesday, September 3.
Also, please note that the last day of cafeteria service is this coming Friday, June 20.
Have a great evening,
The BCE Administration Team
Happy Monday!
With two upcoming concerts and other special year-end events, we wanted to take a minute to remind our entire school community about parking alongside Beachy Cove Road. We are truly appreciative of all the people who want to come out and support our leaners in these spectacular events. It would be very unfortunate if we had to delay (or even cancel) a school performance due to traffic concerns on our town's roads.
There were significant traffic concerns along Beachy Cove Rd during our last concert and we have been asked by our community partners (the PCSP Fire Department, the Town of PCSP, and the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure) to send along the following information.
Parking for any school-wide events, including concerts, has to abide by the following restriction: East facing roadside is not available for parking, from civic address # 162 east to the intersection of Witch Hazel Road.
Good Afternoon,
We wanted to let you know that we'll be doing some painting in our main parking lot this evening. If you are coming to the school anytime between now and tomorrow morning, please pay attention to the pylons and use the same entrance to enter and exit the parking lot.
We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.
The BCE Administration Team,
Tammy
Good Evening,
We apologize for the late-evening email, but we wanted to remind everyone that cafeteria orders for Cycle 3 (June 9 - June 20) are due by 12:00 pm tomorrow! Orders will not be accepted after the deadline, so please make sure to place your orders before tomorrow's deadline through the Chartwell's website.
Also, please note that the old menu is no longer available. Orders must be placed through the Chartwells website or the Nutrislice app as the school can no longer accept last minute cash orders.
Thank you,
The BCE Administration Team

Don't forget to include your child's name to be entered in for the bike prize draw. Simply click on the "group sales" and enter the name in the "additional names" field. If you forgot to do so in your initial ticket purchase, just email us at beachycoveelem@nlschools.ca or tammymanor@nlschools.ca to ensure we have the name recorded.
Good Afternoon,
It's crazy to think how fast the time is going! Looking forward now to the month of June, it's important to note that ordering is now open for Cycle 3 lunch orders. Ordering is ongoing from now until 12:00 pm on Thursday, June 4th. It is very important that all orders are placed by this deadline to ensure your child can avail of the lunch program. Lunch orders are only accepted through the Chartwells' website and no orders will be accepted directly at the school. The school cannot accept payment of any kind. Please keep in mind that the new lunch program is a "Pay What you Can" model, which means that orders can be placed without payment if that's an obstacle for your specific circumstances. Regardless of a family's ability to pay, orders still need to be placed through the website. If you are having trouble navigating the website and placing orders, please reach out and we'll support you as best as we can.
Today is our last full day of our Spring 50-50 fundraiser. As of right now, our jackpot sits at over $23 000, which means our winner would take home well over $11 000. Ticket sales end tomorrow promptly at 11:00 am and no sales will be accepted after that time. Don't miss your chance to win such an amazing prize! We also are asking if at all possible to share the link with friends and families, utilizing your social media accounts if you're comfortable doing so. The more people that are aware of our fundraiser the better. All funds raised will be spent directly for our learners here at Beachy Cove. Every share helps!
Keep an eye to your email and our website tomorrow afternoon to see who our grand prize winner will be :)
https://www.rafflebox.ca/raffle/beachy
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
The BCE Administration Team
Good Morning,
It's so nice to see the sun shining and to feel the rising temperatures!
There are only 2 days remaining to purchase tickets on our 50-50 Spring Fundraiser. The jackpot currently sits at just under $20 000, with a prize payout of approximately $10 000. We're hopeful that during this last 48 hour push, we can get that total even higher, allowing us to purchase much needed technology to support our learners!
We truly appreciate your support in either buying ticket tickets, encouraging friends and family to buy tickets (especially those with deep pockets... lol), or simply by sharing and promoting the fundraiser on your social media. Every dollar raised goes directly to our school and our students. Let's see how high it can go!!!
If you can, please copy and paste the direct link below to share :)
https://www.rafflebox.ca/raffle/beachy
Once again, thank you for your support!
The BCE Administration Team
Happy Friday!
Please see the linked memo from NLSchools regarding upcoming changes for our BusPlanner Parent Portal. These changes come into effect on Friday, May 30th and are designed to increase security.
Our 50/50 jackpot continues to grow and currently sits at over $15000 (approximately $7500 for the winner). Please continue to support this important fundraiser by purchasing tickets or simply by sharing the link with family and friends or on your social media accounts!

Have a great weekend :)
The BCE Administration Team
Good Afternoon,
We wanted to advise families that due to construction on Indian Meal Line, you may notice delays for Bus #2. We do not have an estimated timeline for the construction project and we ask for your patience when there are delays.
Also, we wanted to provide a 50/50 update. As of 12:30 this afternoon, the jackpot stands at just under $13000 with a prize payout of approximately $6500. With only a week remaining until the draw date, we kindly ask that you keep sharing the link with your contacts! We do know some people are having trouble when buying tickets for other people. We suggest putting the ticket in the name of the person wanting the ticket, but ensuring that the postal code is the use associated with the credit card being used for payment. We don't want family and friend falling out if the wrong name is used! lol

Thank you for your support of our school and especially our fundraising events!
The BCE Administration Team
Good Afternoon,
We happy to let families know that ordering for the next two week period (May 26 - June 6) has been extended until tomorrow afternoon at 12:00 pm (Thursday, May 22). You can visit the Chartwell's website or the Nutrislice app to place your order. Information can also be found on our school website! Keep in mind our new cafeteria program is a "Pay What You Can" model :)
We also wanted to provide an update on our Spring 50/50 fundraiser! The jackpot currently sits at over $11000, with the winner taking home over $5500. We appreciate your support in either purchasing tickets or sharing the link with family and friends. If you are buying tickets for someone else, you can add their name to the "group ticket" section to help you keep track! Thanks in advance for your help in whatever way you can provide.

Have a wonderful afternoon,
The BCE Administration Team
Good Afternoon and Happy May 2-4 Weekend!
We're only two days into our Spring 50/50 fundraiser and we're already nearing the $7000 mark of funds being raised. That means that the prize payout right now stands at just under $3500! With our grand prize draw now less than two weeks again, we're hoping our school community can help support our first fundraiser in two years! Purchasing tickets, or simply sharing the Rafflebox link with friends and family and on your social media accounts helps spread the word and increase the jackpot. We would absolutely love to see someone walk away with $50 000! And, of course, the more money we raise means more money that we have to support student learning and engagement here at Beachy Cove. When buying tickets, don't forget to click the "group ticket" box to enter the name of your Beachy Cove student to make sure they're in the draw for one of two available bikes (one for each of our primary and elementary wings).
As you're sitting around the campffre, visiting friends in other communities, or just enjoying this long weekend from the comfort of your own home, we ask for you support by sharing the link below!
Rafflebox Link - https://www.rafflebox.ca/raffle/beachy
We also wanted to send a quick reminder that lunch ordering is now open for May 26 - June 6. All orders must be placed IN ADVANCE via the Chartwells website or the Nutrislice app. The deadline for this cycle (May 26 - June 6) is this coming Wednesday, May 21, at 12:00 pm (noon). No orders will be accepted after the deadline.
Have a wonderful weekend! Stay safe :)

Good Evening Families,
We have a couple of important updates to share this evening.
Ordering is now open on the Chartwells website and the Nutrislice app for May 26 - June 6. The deadline for all orders for this 2-week period is Wednesday, June 21 at 12:00 noon. Unfortunately, no late orders will be accepted.
Our 50/50 fundraiser if up and running. We've heard from some families there is nowhere to add the "additional name" to have learners entered for the bike prize draw. You will need to click on the "group purchase" checkbox which will open up the "additional name" field. Please see the picture below. We're sorry for the inconvenience! This is our first time using Rafflebox and are adjusting as needed. Thanks for your patience!
Once again, thank you for your continued support and cooperation,

Good Luck!
The BCE Administration Team
Good Evening Families,
Today was the start of our new school lunch menu and our learners were very interested in the new menu items. As with many new foods, it often takes repeated exposure for children (and adults) to develop a taste for that food. If the meal you've ordered is new to your child, it may be helpful to send a couple of extra snacks as they develop a taste for the new variety of ingredients. Also, please note that individual menu items are no longer available for purchase and ordering is currently closed for this cycle. If you missed the deadline, please let us know and we'll work with you to find a solution.
Tomorrow, we'll be launching our Spring 50/50 fundraiser. Proceeds raised will go toward new technology to support responsive teaching and learning within our school, including ViewSonic Interactive TVs and additional Chromebooks. Tickets this year will be sold through Rafflebox, an online ticketing platform. Tickets will be sold for $5.00 each with a maximum of 20 000 tickets being sold. Should we sell all 20 000 tickets, the winner will take home a total of $50 000!!!!
As we have done in previous years, there will be two individual prizes. One lucky learner from our primary wing and our elementary wing will take home a new bike and helmet. In order for your child's name to be entered in the individual draw, you will need to add their name to the “I want to add additional names” section on the checkout page. This will allow us to keep track of which learners have participated in our collective fundraising efforts.
We will send the link to purchase tickets tomorrow at 12:00 noon, when ticket sales open. Tickets will be sold until the morning of Thursday, May 29th with our grand prize winner being announced that afternoon!
Once the link is sent to families, all we need you to do is share the link with your family and friends. No door to door tickets sales are required and all tickets can be purchased from the comfort of your own home! We appreciate your support as we work toward meeting the needs of all our leaners :)
If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know.
The BCE Administration Team

Good Evening Beachy Cove Families,
We have a few reminders to share this evening:
There is no school for Kindergarten learners tomorrow, January 6, as we welcome our newest Kinderstart group.
There is no school for all learners on Friday, January 7, as we are closed for staff professional learning. Enjoy the long weekend!
We also wanted to inform families about an important change implemented last week to enhance our email security posture. Our NLSchools email system will automatically block any external incoming emails that have a blank subject line. Good Afternoon,
Please be advised that tomorrow's planned power outage for the Portugal Cove - St. Philip's area will not impact Beachy Cove Elementary. We will be OPEN for our regular hours tomorrow!
We also need to let you know that our cafeteria services will not be available this coming Wednesday, February 5. We apologize for the inconvenience. Learners will be able to order from the cafeteria tomorrow, Thursday, and Friday.
As a reminder, we have our first Kinderstart session this coming Thursday, February 6. There will be no Kindergarten classes on this coming Thursday.
Additionally, we are CLOSED for all students on Friday, February 7 for a staff professional learning day.
As always, thank you for your continued support and cooperation,
The BCE Administration Team
Happy New Year to our Beachy Cove Families! We hope you had a wonderful Christmas break making memories with family and friends.
We have been notified by our food service provider that there will not be any cafeteria services for the remainder of this week (Jan 7 - 10). Orders placed for today will be served to learners and any orders for the rest of the week will be refunded. Please allow a day or so for refunds to be processed.
Recess and lunch will have to be provided from home for the rest of this week, starting tomorrow, Tuesday, January 7 and continuing until Friday, January 10.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Thank you,
The BCE Administration Team
Good Evening Families,
We can certainly feel the excitement grow here as we get closer to our holiday break! To help your family keep everything organized, we wanted to send along some quick reminders.
Our last day of classes before the Christmas break will be Friday, December 20th. Dismissal will be at 12:30pm. We will reopen for classes on Monday, January 6th. It will be Day 7 on our school calendar.
Tomorrow is our last day of cafeteria service until after the New Year. Please ensure to send both recess and lunch for Thursday. Due to our early dismissal on Friday, learners will only need recess provided.
Please note the following known Term Two school closures:
Friday, February 7th (Staff PL - Health & Wellness)
Friday, February 21st & Monday, February 24th (Mid-Winter Break)
Monday, March 17th (St. Patrick's Day)
*** There will be one additional PL day in early March for report card writing and Staff PL. The specific date will be forwarded to families early in the New Year.
Specific times for Kinderstart sessions will be sent to families by Thursday. For the information of our current Kindergarten learners, there will be no classes on the following dates:
Thursday, February 6th
Friday, March 7th
Friday, April 4th
Friday, May 2nd
We've also received an update from NLSchools regarding the new policy around Personal Electronic Devices, which can be viewed below.
Have a wonderful evening,
The BCE Administration Team
New Student Personal Electronic Devices Policy
Thank you to all those who participated in the engagement survey. The consultation received robust engagement and feedback from over 13,000 participants, of which over 40 per cent were students, as well as the Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers’ Association and other key educational partners.
A new NLSchools Responsible Student Use of Personal Electronic Devices Policy will come into effect when students return from holiday break on January 6, 2025. The policy aims to reduce the impact of inappropriate personal electronic device usage, such as cell phones, on learning.
Under the policy:
Students in grades K-6 are encouraged not to bring personal electronic devices to school and will not have access to devices during school hours.
Students in Grade 7 to Level 4 who bring a personal electronic device to school must switch it off and store it out of sight during instructional hours. Students can access their devices during recess and lunch breaks.
Individual exemptions to the policy may be provided for medical and educational reasons. The application for exemption form will be posted on the NLSchools website later today.
The policy is available on the NLSchools website here. To support fulsome understanding of the policy, a frequently asked questions document for students and parents/guardians is also available on the NLSchools website and is linked below.
Responsible Student Use of Personal Electronic Devices Policy
Frequently Asked Questions – Students, Parents and Guardians
Good Evening,
We hope you've enjoyed this beautiful day. It was so nice see (and feel) the sun :)
Firstly, we want to let our families know that the last day of cafeteria service before the Christmas break is Wednesday, December 18th. There will be no recess or lunch available through our food service provider on Thursday, December 19 or Friday, December 20. Recess and lunch will have to be provided from home on these days.
With tomorrow's Gr. 4 concert happening at the school, we wanted to take a minute to remind our entire school community about parking alongside Beachy Cove Road. We are truly appreciative of all the people who want to come out and support our leaners in these spectacular events. It would be very unfortunate if we had to delay (or even cancel) a school performance due to traffic concerns on our town's roads.
We respectfully ask that if you have tickets for tomorrow's concert, or if you will be attending a large-scale event in future, that you park alongside the far side of Beachy Cove Road only. That is the side of the road furthest away from our school. While it would mean a little walk for our audience members, there is additional space for parking alongside Goat Cove Lane and Patricia Dr. Again, we ask that you park on one side only of these roads as well, to keep them clear for vehicular traffic. We also recommend car pooling wherever possible.
By keeping our town's traffic flow in mind during these events, we can ensure an uninterrupted performance for our leaners :)
As always, thank you for your support and cooperation.
The BCE Administration Team
*** TURKEY DINNER CLARIFICATION***
We wanted to send a quick clarification to families about the turkey dinners for our learners this week.
There is no cost for the dinners. They are being sponsored by local businesses and community members. We will recognize these sponsors in a future email and on our website. There is no need to order dinners through RYCOR as there will be a meal prepared for each learner. You are asked contact your child's teacher only if there are specific dietary restrictions, such as allergies (e.g., wheat, milk).
If there are any other questions, you can contact the administration directly - tammymanor@nlschools.ca or carolynlethbridge@nlschools.ca
Good Evening Families,
As previously communicated, we will be offering a traditional NL turkey dinner for our learners on Wednesday and Thursday this week. Kindergarten, Grade 1, and Grade 2 (English) will be having their dinners on Wednesday and Grade 2 (French), Grade 3, and Grade 4 will be having their dinners on Thursday. If there are dietary restrictions, and you haven't already done so, please notify your child's teacher as soon as possible.
No other cafeteria services will be available on these two days. Recess will have to be provided for all learners from home for both days. Lunch must be sent in from home on the day your child is not having their turkey dinner. If your child will not be eating a dinner on either day, then lunch will need to come from home for both days since the cafeteria will not be accepting additional orders.
We appreciate your understanding and support.
Have a great evening,
The BCE Administration Team
Happy Friday!
We hope everyone is well and enjoyed the little bit of surprise sunshine that we had this afternoon! Who would have thought the day would have ended the way it day after the way it started?!
We have received confirmation that our next PL session will be held on Friday, February 7th. There will be no school for students on this day. We wanted to communicate this to families as soon as possible so that you have time to make arrangements for your children on this day. Because of this day now being a PL day for the entire school, we have had to move our first Kinderstart session to Thursday, February 6th. There will be no school for Kindergarten students only on this day as we welcome our newest learners to our Beachy Cove community.
As a reminder, we will be closing early on December 20, 2024 at 12:30 for the Christmas break. Classes will resume on Monday, January 6th (Day 7).
Excitement is certainly building, and we anticipate much more fun and laughter as we celebrate "The 12 Days of Kindness" in the weeks leading up to Christmas. Tune into CBC this evening for a short piece on how members of our school community have played a role in making this holiday season a little warmer for some New Canadians within our province. Thank you to all those who sent along donations of hats, mitts, scarves, and socks for the Lions Club "Tree of Warm Wishes".
Have a wonderful weekend,
The BCE Administration Team
Good Afternoon Families,
Report cards will be released next Tuesday, December 3rd. We ask that all families schedule an interview with their child's teacher to discuss their progress. It is important for our learners to see that home and school are working together to help them reach their full potential. Wherever possible, we ask that families book one appointment only. If this is not possible, we ask families to contact the classroom teacher directly to make alternate arrangements.
As we did in previous years, families will be able to book an interview time using the online OPTIS system, starting at 3:30 this afternoon. Appointments for Thursday, December 5th will be available through the OPTIS link. Families with a previous account can log in with those credentials. Families new to the school will have to create an account before booking interview times. When booking appointments, please ensure to have the correct teacher selected from the drop down menu.
All interviews will be scheduled for in-person. If you need a virtual/phone appointment, we ask that you book your appointment time through OPTIS, but reach out directly to the teacher to ensure this can be accommodated.
OPTIS will remain open until 8:00 on the morning of December 5th. After that time, any last-minute changes will need to be communicated by calling the school at 709-895-2241. With the large number of interviews being held on this day, teachers will not necessarily be able to check their email in between appointments. We appreciate your cooperation with this matter.
Good Afternoon Kindergarten Families,
It's incredible to think we're almost a third of the way through your child's first year of school! Even more incredible is that we are already preparing to welcome our newest learners to the Beachy Cove community.
On Kinderstart days, there will be no classes for our current Kindergarten learners. We are now able to confirm dates for our upcoming Kinderstart sessions. We will be hosting our four Kinderstart sessions on the first Friday of each month, starting in February. There will be no classes for Kindergarten learners on the following dates:
Friday, February 7th
Friday, March 7th
Friday, April 4th
Friday, May 2nd
Thank you so much for your continued support as we get to know our new friends.
Thank you,
The BCE Administration Team
Please see the attached messages about some upcoming community events.
Thank you and have a great day,

Check out a short Halloween slideshow of some of the fun we had today & our awesome book-inspired pumpkins 🎃
Good Evening Families,
Halloween Treats
With Halloween only two sleeps away, we wanted to send one final reminder that we will not be accepting treats sent in for other learners. This includes both edible and non-edible treats. While we appreciate the kindness, when we consider our Provincial School Food Guidelines, food allergies/sensitivities, and the increased cost of living in our province, it becomes clear that having treats sent in can cause a variety of issues for our learners and their families. We truly appreciate your cooperation as we aim to make this a fun and equitable Halloween for all.
Guidance Counselor of the Year
We are pleased to announce our very own, Ms. Miranda Gosse, was named as this year's Guidance Counselor of the Year by the NLCPA. Throughout her years at Beachy Cove, Ms. Gosse has played a pivotal role in helping learners and staff alike. We are so very fortunate to have Ms. Gosse as part of the team here at Beachy Cove :)
Grade 4 Visit to the Boreal Poetry Garden / Showcase at The Grounds Café
We are please to share the following information with our school community!
Exhibition of 96 new memory maps drawn by Grade 4 students from Beachy Cove Elementary School, Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s, after multi-disciplinary guided walks in The Boreal Poetry Garden
from November 2-30, 2024 at The Grounds Café (Murray’s Garden Centre, 1525 Portugal Cove Road, Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s, Newfoundland)
The drawings will be on display in the Café where people are seated, so the best times to see the exhibition are:
Monday – Saturday
9–10 am when the Garden Centre is open but people are not yet seated in the Café.
3–6 pm when the Café has stopped serving but the Garden Centre is still open.
Sunday
3–5 pm.
This collaborative community project, led by environmental artist Marlene Creates, engages school children with the local ecosystem. This autumn, all four classes of new Grade 4 students from Beachy Cove Elementary School went on guided walks in a six-acre patch of old-growth boreal forest, which Marlene calls The Boreal Poetry Garden. It is traversed by the Blast Hole Pond River.
The exhibition presents the memory maps that were drawn by the students after their walk. Each class experienced a different art form as the site was animated by the following artists:
Katie Baggs, singer-songwriter on guitar and ukulele
Marlene Creates, nature poetry
Jack Eastwood, shadow puppets of local wildlife
Florian Hoefner, accordion and percussion
Don McKay, nature poetry and moose horn
Louise Moyes, contemporary dance
Matthew Roome, saxophone
Laura Temple, natural history
The exhibition also includes a slide show with photographs by Sally LeDrew that illustrates the different performances and activities that the students experienced on the guided walks in The Boreal Poetry Garden.

Good Evening Families,
Please find our most recent Family memo attached. Within the memo, you'll find important information and reminders for the next few days and weeks.
In the meantime, we'd like to remind you that we are having a school-wide pyjama day tomorrow for the Janeway's Jamarama. We will not be collecting money at school and encourage families to donate thought the Janeway's webpage if they would like to make a donation. Learners do not need to purchase new pyjamas for this event. We only ask that our learners change into fresh pyjamas in the morning before coming to school!! lol If your child would prefer not to wear pyjamas, they can wear whatever clothing they are most comfortable in at school.
Additionally, we have made some changes to our Halloween Guidelines. This year, we are trying something new and inviting our learners to come to school already dressed in their costumes. The hope is that this will alleviate stress for families and the students themselves as it can be difficult to change at lunch. We're also recommending that learners choose costumes other than those that are inflatable. We have experienced situations in previous years where these costumes have broken during the day, leaving some disappointed children on Halloween Night. That being said, we recognize that not all families might not have access to multiple costumes and will certainly allow inflatable costumes if the family feels is it necessary. Further information regarding our Halloween Guidelines can be found in the attached memo.
Thank you and, as always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact Tammy Manor (tammymanor@nlschools.ca) or Carolyn Lethbridge (carolynlethbridge@nlschoos.ca) via email or phone at 709-895-2241.
Have a great evening,
The BCE Administration Team

We look forward to seeing our families later this evening, starting at 6:30, for our annual Curriculum Night. Doors for this evening's event will open at 6:20.
Good Evening Families,
We hope everyone is having a wonderful evening and enjoying this beautiful September sunshine.
We are writing to remind families about NLSchools transportation policies. According to the policies, drivers are to follow approved bus routes, stopping only at the designated stops along the route. These policies are in place to ensure the safety of all our learners. We are asking that all families confirm which is their designated bus stop by logging into the Bus Planner portal . In order to log in, you will need your child's student number. These were sent home on the first day with Kindergarten learners, along with any new learners to our building. For all our other learners, including those that may have transferred from other school, you can find your child's student number on any of their previous report cards.
Bus drivers have been directed to drive only along their approved route and to stop only at the designated stops along their specified routes. The school administration is unable to make any changes to bus routes or designated stops, as these are determined by Student Transportation and are not a part of the courtesy seating process. Families are encouraged to complete the NLSchools Public Inquiry Form if they have concerns about their child's designated bus stop.
If you would like to read more about our transportation policies, we encourage to visit the NLSchools Student Transportation webpage.
We appreciate your cooperation as we all work to keep our students safe on our buses. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Ms. Lethbridge or Mme Manor directly.
Thank you,
The BCE Administration Team
