Hazard Communication Plan

Hazard Communication Plan

In order to comply with the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard, Title 29 Code of Federal  Regulations 1910.1200, the Northern Kentucky Health Department (NKY Health) will provide information and training to all employees regarding the hazardous chemicals to which they may be exposed.

Training will take place at the time of initial employment, annually thereafter, and whenever a new hazard is introduced into an employee's work area. Training includes, but is not limited to:

A list of hazardous materials used at any NKY Health location will be available to all employees. This list will include the name and a reference to the section where the SDS for each chemical is stored. This list will be updated as often as necessary.

SDSs will be available to all staff and updated as necessary.  The SDSs will be stored on the Workplace Safety Site, which is accessible from any device capable of accessing NKY Health’s Gmail. A backup electronic copy of the SDSs is held by the Accounting staff. Copies can be downloaded, viewed and/or printed at any time.

Any product that may contain a chemical or hazard received at any NKY Health location must be labelled to indicate contents, use and any special warnings or precautions. Special  handling instructions must be noted. The manufacturer, importer, distributor, or other responsible party’s name and address must be listed. Any product without this information may not be used or stored at any NKY Health location.

Contractors will be provided with information about potential risk of exposure to hazards, location of SDSs, and protective measures necessary. The contractor is responsible to provide NKY Health with information about any  hazardous material or chemical brought to any location.

The Accounting staff is responsible for obtaining SDSs on new products ordered for NKY Health, for updating the Hazard Communication site with the most current SDSs, for updating the Hazardous Chemical Inventory List. Environmental Health and Safety is responsible for the overall program, making safety information  available, and reviewing training and information for employees.
