Immigration. A word we hear in this country, now more than ever. It's always a topic of political conversations, causal talk, or heated arguments. Yet, we usually think of our border country Mexico, and not the millions of other people. Africans, Brits, Aussies, but also people of Asian descent. According to the National U.S Census from 2020, 6.2% of the country identifies as Asian. While that may seem small that's over 20 million people. how all these people got here is no single story, but rather a frame narrative with one final goal:
Make it to America.

A struggle with many people who immigrate often struggles with knowing their identities. America has a way of taking others' cultures and drawing over them with a Sharpie, which may lead to people feeling like outsiders in their own race/ethnicity. This video essay from Jason Co is a great example about this situation, along with our featured work The Best We Could Do.

Immigration and its positive and negative effects
Immigration has a significant amount of effects when it comes to family, it can cause family separation, "huge impacts on family's living with those of mixed household status" Family separation can cause children and parents to have "psychological distress, anxiety and can even cause aggressive behavior".
How immigration affects our world today: immigrating can cause lower wages, "labor market competition" can make people angry in those who are native to the area, and those who are not native to an area could make natives angry about non-natives with labor marketing competitions. those who disagree with immigrants think that they will: take jobs, lower wages, and hurt the poor" How immigration can affect a person: it can be hard to learn new languages and that could be difficult to get a job if you have a hard time speaking another native language that you may not be familiar with, and even being social can be hard at times. finding a school or even a home can be difficult.
some positive impacts on immigration: "It's nice to learn about new cultures, languages which helps improve brotherhood among people, "kids get more opportunities in education, and can improve social life as well!
