Christianity was one of the easiest religions in the world. As of 2020 49.3% of the African population's religion is Christianity. It first arrived in the 1st or the early 2nd century AD, once it started in Northern Africa it slowly spread to the west and east. Christianity was embraced as the kingdom's official religion by King Ezana in the 4th Century.
Islam didn't come along till the 8th century. About 41.5% of the population is Islam. Islam was a modern influence, creating an ongoing order among different societies. This made the government stronger and it broke down ethnic loyalties. Islam follows traditional values, for example, men can have more than one wife at a time. Islam in Africa had a dynamic and turbulent history, with reforming movements and dynasties clashing and succeeding each other.
Religion is very important in people's lives in Africa. Traditional religions are a complex set of indigenous beliefs and practices. These get passed down from generation to generation. The beliefs stay the same throughout the years. One of them being the belief in ancestral spirits.
Personal Reflection: Taking this class at NKU has taught me a lot. It taught me how to communicate with my classmates and peers better, showed me how to write college level papers, and I have learned lots of more skills that will help me in the future. Reading books that are about different cultures in this class has helped me get a better understanding of the world around me. Dr. Krouse has been a great mentor and teacher throughout these 3 weeks. She has given all the students great tips for college and tips for going into the real world.
