Overview
The Schoolwide Enrichment Model provides enrichment for all students through levels of engagement and challenging learning experiences that are constructed around students’ interests, learning styles, and preferred modes of expression. This model applies the know-how of gifted education to a systematic plan for total school improvement. Based on the belief that “a rising tide lifts all boats,” our goal is to elevate the student experience and increase challenge levels for all students. In class learning, as well as participation in cycle classes, provide these opportunities. This “enrichment for all model” establishes our Tier 1 level of support.
The enrichment teacher will help develop appropriate curricular and instructional modifications for students within the classroom based on the content, process, or product of their learning. Emphasis is placed on exploring topics with greater depth and complexity, thus analyzing the content and applying their knowledge to the real world. These recommended interventions may include but are not limited to: differentiation, learning centers, flexible grouping, tiered assignments, supplemental work, learning menus, curriculum compacting, acceleration, and/or independent studies. Students receiving these supports can change based on the subject, content, and topic being explored, depending on a particular student’s areas of strengths and interests. This academically advanced instruction that occurs within the classroom setting for the select students in need establishes our Tier 2 level of support.
Additionally, pull-out services will be provided for select students with the intellectual need for advanced programming that cannot be met within the traditional classroom setting. Through project-based, interdisciplinary learning opportunities, students will develop their critical thinking, reasoning, problem solving, and other higher-level thinking skills that can be applied across any subject and life competency. This pull-out program establishes our Tier 3 level of support.
Students must continue to demonstrate a need for rigor above the regular curriculum to receive Tier 2 and Tier 3 services each year.
