Areas of cognitive development, academic achievement, and creative ability are all considered when identifying gifted students. These students manifest behaviors in three general clusters: above-average intellectual ability, task commitment, and creativity. Our identification criteria is inclusive of these domains.
Multiple measures are used to determine academic and/or intellectual need for Tier 2 and Tier 3 services. Specific identification criteria includes:

Identification Process and Evaluation Period
The identification process is ongoing to ensure we are always meeting the needs of our students. Final selection is made by a district-wide selection committee composed of classroom teachers, special subject teachers, Child Study Team members, and the enrichment teacher. While recommendations from parents and teachers will be taken throughout the year, the evaluation process to identify students for the program will occur at the following points throughout the school year:
Complaints and Appeals
Any individual who believes that the district has not complied with the provisions in the law or administrative code related to gifted and talented services may file a complaint with the board of education. The complaint shall be submitted in writing to the board office in accordance with law (N.J.S.A. 18A:6-9) and the procedures set forth in the State Board of Education regulations.
