I am a Registered Psychotherapist & EMDR-clinician practicing in Ottawa, Ontario. I engage in individual therapy with adults aged 18+ of all genders and sexualities. I provide sessions in-person, by phone, or virtually using a secure video format that is PIPEDA and PHIPA compliant.
The purpose of this free, 30-minute meeting is not to start therapeutic treatment, but to answer your questions, introduce you to my therapy style, help you to determine if we are a "good fit", and to explain briefly how we might approach your current concerns in future sessions.
Extensive research supports that the quality of the therapist-client relationship determines the success of therapeutic treatment more than anything else. It is thus very important to me that you feel secure in your choice of therapist. I encourage you to let me know of any worries you have about myself or therapy. If you show up and say "I'm worried therapy won't help me!" that's okay! If we finish our consult and you say "I don't think you're a good fit for me, Nisha!" that is completely understandable. Even if it's scary or uncomfortable to be honest with me, know that I will always appreciate it. My first priority is to make sure you feel in charge of your therapy journey — whether that is with myself, or not!
Free consultations are offered by phone or video-chat only.
Complete the consent form, which will be sent to you by email before our session.

In this first 50-minute session, I will explain how therapy works and we will explore the nature of your distress. Together, we will discuss how therapy could help you to gain insight on what may be causing or worsening your symptoms, and we will determine the therapeutic goals on which you would like to focus. By the end of session, we will have collaborated on a unique and individualized treatment plan. I will send you home with some scientifically validated assessments to help us both gather relevant information on your personal history and current experience.
Most importantly, this session should help you decide whether you feel comfortable and safe enough to allow me to accompany you on your therapeutic journey. I encourage you to let me know of any concerns you have about myself or therapy. If you show up and say "I'm worried therapy won't help me!" that's okay! If we finish our session and you say "I don't think you're a good fit for me, Nisha!" that is completely understandable. Even if it's scary or uncomfortable to be honest with me, know I will always appreciate it. I really want to make sure that you feel in charge of our work and that you are happy with your therapy journey!

Having participated in 48 hours of Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing training with the EMDR Centre of Canada, I am happy to provide EMDR therapy to clients. EMDR is a particularly effective therapy technique for those struggling with low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, phobias, and trauma/PTSD symptoms.
EMDR treatment can be provided in-person or virtually. We will engage in this service once we have discussed the use of EMDR treatment for your concerns and have undergone necessary preparation in-session.
This fee, paid per session, covers the 50 minute session and the 10 minutes after our session used for creation of treatment notes and maintenance of your file (you are not present for this part!)
It also covers various between-session tasks performed on your behalf by the clinician:
keeping files safe
correspondence with doctors as-needed
time spent writing letters for client workplaces, schools, etc. as-needed
I have a limited number of sliding scale spots available to make therapy more accessible to vulnerable and underserved populations (such as new migrants to Canada; unhoused persons; persons with chronic pain or disability that cannot work; etc.) The availability of these slots is subject to a first-come first-served basis.
