Areas of Expertise

Nisha Mohan

Registered Psychotherapist

Hello and welcome!

I am a Registered Psychotherapist & EMDR-clinician that works with adult individuals of all genders and sexualities in Ottawa, Ontario. I have particular expertise in the treatment of trauma & PTSD, self-esteem, and attachment difficulties. I feel so lucky that I get to connect with unique and brave people like you every day!

As your therapist, I strive not to hide behind a facade of professionalism or authority. While I am here to guide you in self-exploration, understanding and knowledge, I greatly value authenticity and aim always to be real with you. I look forward to fostering a sincere and trusting relationship with my clients, one which above all helps them to feel seen, heard, cared for and understood.

I believe that it is through honesty with ourselves about our feelings, relationships, wants, needs, and pasts, that we can move through dark times and free ourselves of heavy emotional burdens. I have faith in our capacity for growth, and I have seen first-hand how individuals flourish when given the chance to explore and reframe their life stories. I hope that together we might create a space that is kind, genuine and yours, where you can engage in this daring and valuable work.

The therapeutic relationship is highly important. To help you decide if my services are a good fit for your needs, I offer free 30 minute consultations where we can learn about one-another before committing to treatment together. I look forward to seeing you soon!

Client Focus

I care deeply about my clients and am passionate about about my work!

I connect with adult clients aged 18+ for individual therapy sessions. I have clinical experience supporting sex workers, new migrants to Canada and those with refugee backgrounds. I am a member of and have experience supporting members of the LGBTQ+ community. I am a sex-positive therapist. I am open-relationship / non-monogamy, HIV/AIDS, and transgender allied.

I'm highly interested and have expertise in the treatment of self-esteem, identity, anxiety and relationship difficulties as a result of past trauma or distressing experiences. Though I have particular interest in the treatment of (C)PTSD, I happily work with a wide range of presenting concerns. No problem is too big or too small for therapy — if it's important to you, then it's important to me.

I have valuable clinical experience providing long-term treatment to clients struggling with the following mental health concerns

Treatment Approaches

A flexible, integrative approach to treatment ensures that the techniques and theoretical perspectives I employ to guide our therapy are a good fit for you. I am well-versed in a wide range of treatment types including:

I ground my understanding of client concerns within the framework of relational psychodynamic and internal family systems theories. My overall understanding of human development is attachment-based, founded in clinical research and theory, and is culturally-sensitive. I encourage you to be open with me about what you are hoping your therapeutic journey will look like — after all, you are the expert on your needs!

Education and Training

I completed my Honours Bachelor’s degree in Applied Psychology at Bishop’s University in Lennoxville, Quebec. For my undergraduate research thesis, I collaborated with Middle-Eastern immigrant families with refugee backgrounds to determine their access to physical and mental healthcare in Canada. I went on to complete a Masters degree in Counselling Psychology at the University of Ottawa, during which I also participated in Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing training with the EMDR Centre of Canada.

I have provided clinical services, psychoeducation and mental health support in various settings including a local Women’s Centre; high-school and middle-school programs for adolescents with special learning needs and developmental challenges; university student success services; and support groups for survivors of sexual assault, and those struggling with body image. I began working in private practice in 2019, and today am a proud member of an exclusive team of clinicians providing psychology and psychotherapy services at Ottawa's Integrative Healing Psychology office.

Continued education is important to me — and I love it! In an effort to continuously learn from the best in the field, I attend regular monthly clinical consultations and workshops to ensure that the services I provide remain as evidence-based and up-to-date as possible.

I am a member in good standing with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.

Authenticity is a collection of choices that we have to make every day. It's about the choice to show up and be real. The choice to be honest. The choice to let our true selves be seen.
