Frequently Asked Questions

What does it mean to be in "supervised" practice?

Therapists often seek out monthly supervision with a clinician who carries more experience in the field as a form of professional development. When a clinician is supervised, the supervisor is more directly involved in the treatment of clients and the conceptualization of client cases. The supervisee is thus able to learn from the supervisor one-on-one and apply this expertise to their work.

I myself am supervised by Natalie Charron R.P., Psy.D., an EMDR-trained psychologist with over 10 years of clinical experience. To learn more about Natalie, you can visit her profile here:

Can you bill my insurance company directly?

My services are covered by any insurance provider that provides coverage for Registered Psychotherapists (R.P.) or Psychologists (Ph.D. / Psy.D.).

Unfortunately, I cannot bill any insurance company directly. Each client must pay the fees themselves and, if covered by an insurance plan, may reclaim the allowed portion covered by the plan. You will likely need to contact your provider about the details of your coverage.

Note that OHIP does not cover mental health care expenses at this time.

Can you diagnose me?

Psychotherapists are authorized by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario to perform the controlled act of psychotherapy. Although we are able to provide a wide range of therapy and counselling services, psychotherapists are not permitted to diagnose mental health disorders. If a formal diagnosis is important to you, I can refer you to a psychologist for a psycho-diagnostic assessment. As a psychotherapist, I am happy to work alongside the many professional carers in your life (ex. family doctor, psychiatrist, dietitian, neurologist, psychologist, etc.)

I feel fine most of the time and I worry that my problems are not legitimate. Can I still engage in therapy?

It is true that many seek out therapy when they are feeling distressed or struggling. However many people who are content and emotionally stable still enjoy the benefits of therapy! Anyone can engage in self-reflection and work towards self-growth. There is something very soothing about having a safe place to speak our minds, vent, and feel truly heard.

Sometimes clients worry that their problems are not "big enough" or "bad enough" to warrant therapy. Know that no matter how you feel and no matter what you are bringing to therapy (seemingly "big" or "small"), it is important to me. I would love to talk about what's on your mind, no matter what that is.

Will I benefit from therapy if I have no idea why I need it?

Sometimes we struggle with our thoughts, feelings or behaviour and have no idea why. It can be hard to know what kind of help we need when we have difficulty putting words to our experience. The short answer to this question is: YES. In therapy I will "meet you where you're at" and we will work together to determine the meaning of your experience, and your needs moving forward. Exploration is key!

Do I need a referral to work with you?

Nope! Anyone can benefit from therapy and I am happy to work with all kinds of clients. Reach out today!
