Currently, we have 8 chicks , 2 turkeys and 1 guinea hen that have hatched and have been moved to the playpen! In the playpen, there is a blue and white water dish, red food trough and a yellow brooder lamp (heat lamp that keeps the chicks warm).
What do you notice about the chicks? Are they all the same? What type of body covering do they have? What behaviors do you notice? Are these behaviors instincts (chicks were born knowing how to do the behavior) or learned (chicks learned from another chicken or human how to do the behavior)? What adaptations do the chicks have that help them survive in their environment?
Visit the blog below for a video of hatching and the little chick chirping! (It may have been calling out to encourage the other chicks to hatch and play!)
