Students will be investigating several TEKs (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills as defined for 1st grade by the Texas Education Agency) throughout their study. This unit connects to students learning the basic needs of living things, as well as the production of offspring (1.9A), identifying how the external characteristics of an animal help it thrive and survive (1.10A), comparing how offspring resemble their parents (1.10C), and observing and comparing life cycles (1.10D). This cross-content unit incorporates skills students will use to be successful in all areas of learning!

We will be live streaming the chicken eggs in the incubators as we get close to "Hatch Day" to share the excitement with you! To view our "Hatch Cams" please click the link below. Mrs. P's Hatch Cam will go live around April 20th. The Admin Hatch Cam will go live around April 27th. Video recordings will include candling the chicken eggs to get the "inside view", eggs in the automatic egg turner inside the incubator. Live stream will include eggs in the incubator, hatching and drying of chicks and eventually chicks in their brooder. We hope you enjoy sharing in our life cycle journey!
