THE ELEMENTARY MATH EXPERIENCE

Elementary students in NISD experience math through the Workshop Model in a daily problem solving workshop and a daily core math workshop. This balanced approach leads to mathematical proficiency through the development of students' conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, strategic competence, adaptive reasoning, and productive disposition. Students who exhibit mathematical proficiency embrace productive struggle and apply prior learning to new problems and new situations.

NISD ELEMENTARY MATH STUDENTS:

• Develop and practice foundational math skills in order to apply these skills to real-world situations. 

• Engage in problem-solving daily using a model that incorporates formulating a plan, applying a strategy, solving a problem and justifying your thinking

• Effectively organize and communicate mathematical ideas using representations, equations, written explanations, and discussions.

ORIGO Stepping Stones is our adopted K-5 math resource. You can access Stepping Stones through any of the elementary math curriculum pages in Canvas. 

The teacher lesson notes provided will guide you through instructing the lesson, modeling strategies, and posing thoughtful, reflective questions to students as they grapple with new informatoin. The student journal pages will give you insight into how students perform in relation to the learning target.
