As you know, each classroom in NISD is unique. Classroom management is not a "one-size fits all" for students. Many teachers will leave expectations for students and for you if a student is not following expectations. We believe in cultivating relationships with students and supporting their social & emotional learning. Below are some additional strategies to work with students in your care.
Click on the Positive Behavior Management Strategies photo link below for ideas to set expectations, redirect negative behavior and form positive relationships with students, even in just one day! See additional strategies below.
Positive Behavior Management Strategies (Student Handbook/Code of Conduct)
Welcome the students at the door as they come in.
Introduce yourself to the students. Write your name on the board and tell them a little bit about yourself.
Ask the students their names.
Check-in with students. Simply asking them how they are shows them you are interested in their well-being.
Praise positive behavior.
Listen
Smile :)
Be confident
Set a few expectations
Begin each activity by clarifying your expectations for student behavior during the activity.
Set general expectations at the beginning of class.
Make the rounds around the room. The class is more likely to stay on task if you are walking around and actively monitoring what they are doing.
