BEGINNING BAND NEWS
Beginning Band students have been starting to read music! We are now in the early stages of learning how to play songs by reading notes/ rhythms and playing them on our instruments.
Students should now be practicing daily, which means they need to take their instruments home EVERY DAY, so they can master the concepts they are learning in class. We will have weekly playing tests.
Students are given daily assignments to write down. You should never hear, "I don't know what to practice" or " I don't have anything to practice for band." Practice logs are due with a parent signature EACH THURSDAY. To earn a 100, students must practice for 20 min 5 days in the week.
Demonstration Concerts are coming the evening of October 30!! At these performances, students will demonstrate what we do in class each day, as well as have an opportunity to teach a family member about their instruments. This is a REQUIRED performance. Students will wear their BAND SHIRTS AND JEANS.
What should students be "practicing" at home?
Rhythm-- You should hear their metronome clicking while they practice counting.
Fundamentals and Songs- each class is learning to play exercises found in their band binders that are continuing to teach the fundamentals of their instrument. They are also beginning to learn songs out of their Essential Elements books, and will have weekly playing tests.
Band OLYMPICS! - We have handed out a "Band Olympics" page where students will earn colorful zip ties to attach to their cases for "passing off" (performing correctly with a metronome) various fundamentals, rhythm charts, and book lines. We can't wait to hear their progress!
Beginning Brass have learned how to maintain their instruments properly! Ask them about Maintenance Monday, and make sure they continue to do this at home!
