FAQ: How can I fit band into my HS schedule?

Our band students are some of the most involved students on campus! They participate in Academies, every sport, cheer, dance, academic teams, etc. We have had many band students graduate in the TOP TEN of Eaton HS,. Our students often participate in MULTIPLE Fine Arts classes, and still have "off periods" by their senior year, work part time jobs, and get many, many hours of AP credit. Band students are among the most sought after students by college admissions, because they know band students are dedicated, work hard, know what it's like to be part of a team, and have learned to manage their time well. Our EHS band students have earned millions of dollars of scholarship offers for academics and music. Band also counts as a both a fine arts credit AND PE credit, freeing an addition elective spot.

Below is a slide presentation of possible schedule scenarios.

EHS Band Alumni at the College Football Championship! We're so proud of these kids!

A quote from Mr. Elder about these alumni and band:

"Standing there is safely 3/4 MILLION dollars in college scholarships. Standing there are students who at the very least are taking advantage of skill (band) that they developed over their young lives to positively affect their financial and social futures; therefore, preparing themselves to start their young adult lives on potentially stronger footing. Standing there are students who have developed lifelong relationships, and not temporary friendships. (There is  huge difference in those two things.) The world that you inherit will be about relationships and networking. I could go on and on, but I think you get the point. You do not have to be an All State caliber player to get some money for whatever you choose to do next. Don't sell yourself short, don't be afraid to hear the word, "No," and don't be afraid to ask questions."

Marching Band

There are two levels of marching band: “Varsity” and the “Pride of Eaton.” The “Pride of Eaton” includes every student and our “Varsity” group is audition based. The “Pride of Eaton” requires only one rehearsal per week and performs at all football games, pep rallies, parades, etc. The “Varsity/Competition” group rehearses more frequently and represents Eaton High School at various area and state marching contests.

Concert Band

Next year we hope to have three competitive concert bands. All competitive groups will compete in a festival and/or UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest. These classes are ability based, and will challenge you at whatever skill level you are at.

Jazz Band

Jazz Band meets during the school day and performs at various events throughout the school year. The jazz band focuses on various jazz and latin styles of music and also serves as the nucleus for the Eaton HS Musical each year. In order to participate in Jazz Band you must first be enrolled in a band class. This class requires director approval.

Colorguard

The colorguard is a class that focuses on dance and movement as well as learning to toss flags, rifles and sabres. In the fall, colorguard is an extension of our “Varsity” Marching Band and learns a routine that enhances the competition show. In addition colorguard participates in all football games, pep rallies, etc. In the spring semester, this class learns an independent floor routine and competes in the North Texas Colorguard Association (NTCA) Circuit. This class is by audition. No experience is required, however previous dance experience is certainly helpful.

Percussion

Percussion is a class that focuses on the continuing development of their skills. In the fall, the percussion is split into two main sections, the battery and the front ensemble. The battery instruments include snare, tenor drums, and multiple bass drums. The front ensemble instruments include all keyboard instruments, as well as specialty instruments utilized in the marching band show. In the spring, percussion classes are broken into ability based groups that will learn music for the concert band competitions, in addition to preparing for the Night of Percussion.
