I hope your weekend was restful and reflective as we honored the 20th anniversary of 9/11. Flags flown half staff and many of our hearts solemn as we relived where we were and what we were doing on that day. Many of us remember it like yesterday, while some have little recollection, if at all. Especially, our students who weren't even born, yet. Thank you to our Social Studies crew and several others who made this tragic event a part of your history lesson to teach our kids the significant impact of this day in our history and how it changed our way lives, in many ways. It still doesn't seem like it's been 20 years ago- my first year teaching, Handley Middle School, Fort Worth ISD. My students, then, are well in their 30's -actually, some are now colleagues! A reminder of how time truly does fly and the time to seize an opportunity to influence the lives of our students is NOW. Let's seize each day and give it our all!
For the kids in our care right now, they have all been given a snap shot of the progress made thus far via progress report. A couple of reflective questions to consider:
Looking over your entire gradebook, how are your students doing in your class?
Who's breezing through and having great success? How should they be challenged more?
Which students seem to be having significant struggle? What are some reasons why they might be struggling?
What other assignments will be given that should be graded and recorded that will give greater insight into each kid and what teaching and learning strategies are best?
Are there any resources or support you need- clarification on how many grades, accommodations, etc.? Who should you reach out to for questions and support: dept. head, team lead, admin., instructional coach, counselor, diags., SSF? The village is here!
Progress reports is a check list thing and yes, must be done. I hope it will also serve as useful information for you, as well, to determine what direction you might go for the next few weeks regarding adjusting assignments, reaching out to students for tutorial invites, noting who might be in desperate need of parental support/contact/conference, and more. We have the greatest job on earth. We have the best team on the planet- seize the moment, enjoy your work, and know that the work you are doing is, has and will make an impact in the lives of our youth (one way or another)! We may as well make it a great week!
