As we head into the 2nd week of Qtr. 2, it's time to review any and all information that may be helpful to continue revving up and building momentum in instruction. After previewing Qtr. 1 mark reporting, generated beautifully each quarter from our registrar Raquel Gonzales, here are a couple highlights I noticed:
*about 409 students earned A or A/B Honor (6th, 7th, and 8th grade combined)
*about 179 students failed one or more classes (6th, 7th, and 8th grade combined) and here's a breakdown of that:
42-6th graders
37- 7th graders
100+ - 8th graders
*I'm curious about between the 2 groups of students above, how are our other 750 students doing who are performing around the average range. I wonder if there are things in place that could push more of them into the A or A/B honor roll group or is there something not happening that could send them to the group who failed one or more classes
Taking a look and reviewing what all you accomplished in qtr. 1 is essential, so you can fine tune where you want to focus 2nd quarter. Our admin., counselor, and ILT teams have all spent time reflecting and goal setting. Dept. chairs are previewing MAP and CBA data to see where we are and what steps could be taken next. We should all be reviewing grades to see who has been successful, not successful, which assignments did we see significant struggle, are there any tweaks to those types of assignments for qtr. 2, plus communicating with parents when we see struggle and/or success. The journey continues and though it may feel like there is so much to be done, I can assure you the more you put into setting your students up for success on the front end of the year, only sets you up for success later in the year. Be intentional with every single assignment given and continue to be curious about what is or is not working for your students, and enjoy your journey of making the learning experience in your classroom the best it can possibly be. You deserve it and kids deserve it.
Have a great week!

Pictured standing with her team, Karen Bland 8th ELA teacher, was selected as our Lion of the Month. Colleagues and staff who nominated Mrs. Bland say she stepped in tremendously to support all of 8th ELA with our long term guest educator. She got the year started off right and students didn't miss a beat. There were also comments about how she leads the 8th grade team with excellence, compassion, and care for each of her teammates.
