As a classroom teacher, I looked for ways to try the latest technology tools to vary my lesson delivery, keep my students engaged, and help them find ownership in their own learning. Successful technology integration occurs when technology is used to augment, modify, and/or redefine the learning (SAMR Model). One of my favorite methods of accomplishing this is through the use of student choice in which there are set parameters for assignment conditions which release control to the student in order to empower them to demonstrate their learning in a way that is unique to them. Alice Keeler commonly advises teachers to not be afraid to click on everything when you find a new website or tool as you cannot break it; curiosity and inquiry are what lead educators and students to new discoveries that enhance the learning process. I pride myself on being willing to try new things, adapt and improve from failure, and plan accordingly for the next time.
These characteristics are what led me to the Department of Instructional Technology. As an Instructional Technologist, I am grateful to partner alongside teachers, administrators, and a wide variety of Central Office Staff to collectively enhance curriculum and the way it is delivered through purposeful use of technology aimed at increasing student engagement and success. All efforts maintain the overarching goal of supporting district initiatives focusing on preparing students for college, the global workplace, and personal success.
