ISTE Certification is a competency-based teacher certification based on the ISTE Standards for Educators. It helps build an educator’s professional profile and provides a digital credential to demonstrate mastery and recognize his or her application of the ISTE Standards, which define what it means to be a 21st century educator using technology for learning
Step 1 - Complete a two-day face-to-face training conducted by an ISTE Certification Authorized Provider; mine was conducted via TCEA.
Step 2 - Complete a five to eight week online course (approximately 30 hours).
Step 3 - Assemble your e-portfolio of artifacts and submit them to the ISTE certification review panel. Aspiring ISTE Certified Educators will have six months to apply their learning and submit their e-portfolios.
Blended Learning is much more than a simple class option such as taking an on level class, a pre-ap class, or a blended class. A Blended Learning environment is one in which the learning is delivered partially online and partially face-to-face with some student control over time, place, path, or pace. This instructional method aims to support students in the areas of metacognition, self-monitoring, and personal study skills in a way that better prepares them to be successful in a variety of environments through bridging the gap of less developed professional skills.
To build my professional knowledge base in this area, I have participated in various online professional developments, specifically those offered through Region XI and UTHS as shown below.
This Blended Learning Basics course covers the getting started aspects of Blended Learning. Topics of study include an introduction to blended learning as well as a study of the rationale, models, planning, and implementation of blended learning.
This Blended Learning Intermediate course focuses on curriculum design and delivery to support teachers in developing well-planned blended learning lessons which consider structure of the lessons, how technology is incorporated, and effective strategies for facilitating students during these lessons.
Those within Common Sense Education are committed to creating a culture of digital learning and citizenship in their classrooms, schools, and districts. Northwest ISD has demonstrated its commitment to taking a whole-community approach to preparing its students to use the immense power of digital media to explore, create, connect, and learn, while limiting the perils that exist in the online realm, such as plagiarism, loss of privacy, and cyberbullying.
To receive this certification, I co-developed a HS Digital Citizenship training resource for teachers to facilitate lessons during Advisory. Module topics include: Privacy and Security, Internet Safety, Digital Footprints & Reputation, Cyberbullying & Digital Drama, and Creative Credit & Copyright
To receive this certification, evidence was provided that 100% of Advisory teachers at each of my secondary schools delivered digital citizenship instruction to students. We also shared this NISD Family Connections parent hub which helps equip parents to continue the DC conversation at home.
To receive this certification, at least 50% of the schools within a district must be Common Sense Media Certified Schools. Since Byron Nelson High School, Medlin Middle School, and Steele ECHS met that distinction, it contributed to Northwest ISD successfully getting certified as a district.
Mote is an amazing product that allows users to quickly and easily add verbal feedback and audio responses across the Google Ecosystem of products, as a voice note on ANY website, and even as a standalone audio note. With feedback being a critical part of the learning cycle, I am excited to share this tool with teachers for them to use with students and even encourage students to use with each other.
