The South West Central Regional Research Delivery Network (RRDN) is hosted by University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW).
This means that you would be employed by UHBW and enjoy the benefits of being part of the NHS and the largest acute teaching Trust in the South West.
Bringing together a combined workforce of over 15,000 staff, UHBW delivers over 100 different clinical services across 10 different sites serving a core population of more than 500,000 people.
As an NHS employee, you will have access to a generous pension scheme, unique NHS discounts and a minimum of 27 days annual leave, plus bank holidays. If you are an existing NHS employee, you will also retain your existing continuous service.
Please note: Regional Speciality and Settings Leads are not employed by UHBW or the South West Central RRDN. You would remain employed by your current substantive employer.
The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) is funded by the Department of Health and Social Care to improve the health and wealth of the nation through research.
Part of the NIHR, the Research Delivery Network (RDN) supports the efficient initiation and delivery of health and care research in England for the benefit of patients, the health and care system and the economy.
The RDN sits within a rich research ecosystem and plays a vital role, alongside other partners and stakeholders, in achieving the overarching visions and strategies for the NIHR and wider health and care research system.
We work closely with our colleagues in the other RRDNs around the country and with the RDN Coordinating Centre, sharing best practice and working together on national projects. As well as being part of a regional network you will also have the opportunity to collaborate on a national scale.
You will get to work closely as part of a single organisation that makes a difference. For example, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the NIHR worked with the NHS and commercial partners to deliver ground-breaking research and save lives. We helped find new treatments, develop vaccines. and evaluate tests and diagnostics.
Our research helps turn discoveries into new or improved treatments, diagnostics, medical technologies and services. It provides those working in the NHS, public health and social care with the evidence they need to better support patients, carers and the public.
The three videos below are all recent examples of some of our work in the South West Central region.
There are several extra benefits of working for the South West Central RRDN, in addition to the UHBW staff benefits.
Our working base
We currently offer a hybrid working arrangement with a combination of face-to-face and remote working.
Our main office is located in the heart of Bristol City Centre, and is conveniently located and within close proximity to a range of amenities. Our office has a fantastic café which provides a range of refreshments throughout the day. There is also an on-site gym with fitness facilities at discounted prices. Lockers, showers and changing facilities are located on-site.
We also have a second hub for our Agile Research Delivery Team at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, allowing them to be nearby to the populations that we serve in Dorset.
Wellbeing, learning and social activities
Wellbeing is really important to us and we pride ourselves on having an open and inclusive working culture. We focus on a different wellbeing theme every month, with our wellbeing advocates sharing resources and activities for the whole team to engage in.
Our Social Events Team works hard to provide opportunities for us to get together outside of our day-to-day work. In the past, this has included events such as paddle-boarding, climbing and pottery painting..
We invest in our team and provide a range of learning and development opportunities, from formal training in a range of topics to coaching and mentoring. We believe that learning happens in lots of different ways and support the team to learn through both training and experience in their roles.
Our staff experience
In our 2023 staff engagement and experience survey, our team highlighted a number of strengths, including our culture and teamwork, our support for wellbeing and work-life balance, and the sense of purpose in our work.
