Project 2.3

______________

RAising the Profile of Research within Integrated Care Systems (ICSs) Across the West Midlands (RAPRICS)

Project Summary

_________

The NHS Long Term Plan (2019) described changes to the health and care environment that have brought about the creation of Integrated Care Systems (ICSs), bringing together local organisations into an integrated partnership of Primary, Secondary, Community, Mental Health care providers with Social Care. The aim of this project is to ensure that as the ICSs emerge, develop and become established, research is firmly embedded within their fabric. The project sets out to establish research links within the ICS with whom we will work to help them to understand - the role of the Clinical Research Network (CRN) as part of the NIHR infrastructure and the benefits of working with us; what currently exists in the ICS in terms of research infrastructure (within existing research active partners); and what are the gaps, opportunities and what best practice currently exists that we might share across other ICSs to increase the impact of research across the region.

I work for the Clinical Research Network West Midlands (CRN WM) and am the Acting Deputy Chief Operating Officer and also Research Delivery Manager for Primary Care.  I have worked in the NHS for 25 years, 20 of those years have been in various research roles, mainly in the Primary Care setting.  I am currently the Project Facilitator on two of the Progression Plan projects, which are about raising the profile of research with the Integrated Care System (ICS) setting and improving integration of research at a Primary Care level.  Both of these projects impact hugely on the everyday work of my team in Primary Care and also on the wider work and future direction of the whole CRN WM health and care partner collaborative in the West Midlands.  I am very passionate about ensuring that the people of the West Midlands have access to high quality relevant research and about developing and enabling collaborative links to make sure that happens in the most efficient and effective way possible, hence my interest in these particular projects.
