Bahrain Talent, Jewellery Design Apprenticeship Programme, Consultancy Project: Ms. Shimul Mehta Vyas, Principal Designer, and Founding Faculty, Lifestyle Accessory Design offered a 4-week Jewellery Design Apprenticeship Programme in Bahrain under the aegis of NID’s Integrated Design Services (IDS). The Programme was a collaborative endeavor of Kuwait Finance House (KFH) bank and Bahrain’s leading jewelry brand Devji Aurum which aimed to identify and nurture creative talent in jewelry in local Bahrainis by offering the Apprenticeship Programme to a group of 20 participants, most of whom hailed from a diverse, non-design background. The Programme has been extremely well received by the participants who were taken through the creative design process adopting a hands-on, minds-on approach. The Programme culminated into each of the candidates designing and prototyping their own piece of jewelry.Importantly, the project has enabled NID to extend its vast design experience and build in-roads into the Gulf region.

1. National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmadabad is working alongside Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) to set up the Indian Institute of Gems & Jewellery (IIGJ) in Udipi, Karnataka.The foundation stone was laid by Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, Hon'ble Minister of State, and Ministry of Commerce & Industry in presence of Shri. Manoj Dwivedi, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Smt. Shobha Karandlaje, Member of Parliament, Shri. Praveen Shankar Pandya, Chairman, GJEPC and many dignitaries and representatives of Government of Karnataka and NID faculty representation led by Smt. Shimul Mehta Vyas, Shri. Amresh Panigrahi and Shri. Mayank Loonkar.
2. National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad was involved with Designing and execution for a very high profile gift Inspired from Sadeli craft, which is native to Surat, Gujarat for Prime Minister office,New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented US President Donald Trump's daughter and adviser Ivanka Trump with a rosewood wooden box made in the Sadeli craft.The gift is expected to serve as a reminder of her Hyderabad visit in NOV 2017 in the accession of Global Entrepreneurship Summit, Hyderabad. The marquetry crafted Box created by highly skilled craftsmen from Surat, involves fabrication of geometric patterns in wood.Smt. Shimul Mehta Vyas, Shri. Rajashree Jansari, part of a bigger Team from NID involved Faculty, staff in design support.
3. Organize a workshop on “ Digital Craft & Expression Design workshop INDIA with 7 students, from Integrated design dept. University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka are in NID PG campus Gandhinagar as part of academic exchange (13th-14th November 2017) The team involved in the workshop are Amresh Panigrahi,Vipul Vinzuda and Amit Shina .

Amresh Panigrahi associate senior Designer and course lead -LAD conducted 15 days “1st craft design development workshop in soft stone craft work in Varanasi under USTTAD project.The project is headed by Mr.Amresh Panigrahi for Varanasi cluster in soft stone craft and the project was conducted by outreach programme at, NID between 25th May 2017 to 10 June 2017 in Ramnagar, Varanasi.
2. Amresh Panigrahi associate senior Designer worked for project “Design Intervention for Small Street Business vendor ” as team member with NID colleague contributed in Designing the stalls & peripherals considering the street food business in India . The project has completed its 3rd phase design development by designing stalls for 6 street food categories addressing different mobility pattern of vendors .The Project was sponsored by the Ministry of Small and Medium scale industries ,Government of India and executed by MSME, program of NID as knowledge partner for the project Design Clinic program.
3. Shimul mehta Vyas Principal Designer in lifestyle accessory design dept visited Japan with the Indian delegation to promote Indian jute industry in Japan and being part of the good design award celebration for the jute bag designed by ICNF, NID Gandhinagar.
4. Shimul mehta Vyas Principal Designer in lifestyle accessory design dept conducted 15 days specialized design training to rural women of Assam in water hyacinth craft for the Client: Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Ltd.Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Govt. of India, and New Delhi. The project was headed by Mr.Shimul Mehta Vyas and the project was conducted by outreach programme at, Sivasagar, Assam between 4 sept 2017 to to 15 Sept 2017.
5. Rajeshree Chauhan Sr. Studio Supervisor assisted 15 days workshop “3rd phase craft design development workshop in screw pine craft work in Kerala under USTTAD project. The project is headed by Mr.Zonak Das ,Exhibition design Faculty for the Kerala cluster and the project was conducted by outreach programme at NID between 25th May 2017 to 10 June 2017 in Kodungallur,Thalaya gopalapuram,kerala
