Amresh Panigrahi, a professor at the National Institute of Design (NID) in Ahmedabad, is deeply involved in “Design for Ecosystems”. He teaches in Department of Lifestyle Accessory Design at NID Gandhinagar .His expertise lies in utilising design to enact positive change, particularly in assisting Barefoot Makers in specific regions and has driven numerous impactful projects benefiting traditional maker communities across India, Ethiopia, and Bhutan. His design and research endeavours are supported by NID working for various ministries such as the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME), and the Loksabha Parliament of India. He has worked for international entities like the Royal Government of Bhutan. Additionally, he serves as an invited member of the International Coordination Committee (ICC) for the Design for Social Innovation and Sustainability (DESIS) Network, representing NID DESIS Lab.
