Swivl is an electronic device that works with an iPad to record a teacher candidate as they are delivering a lesson. The use of the Swivl and iPads to record lessons will allow Nicholls University Coordinators to provide more meaningful feedback to candidates after the implementation of a lesson. After the lesson is recorded, videos can be reviewed by the candidate and university coordinator who can both tag specific time points and make comments to showcase a candidates successes or items to discuss. Videos and comments can be used during the post-lesson conferences in order to facilitate meaningful discussion and lead to a higher level of growth among candidates.

Make sure you check all connections to ensure that the main marker and additional markers are paired properly.
Set up your Swivl account and log in to the Swivl app on the iPad. This is how you will share your recorded lesson with your university coordinator and/or mentor teacher. You will be able to make comments on a video once it is uploaded. Anyone you share the link with will also be able to make comments that you can review.
Ask your mentor teacher to wear the marker while teaching so that you can see what the Swivil will do when you are teaching (the teacher does not need to be recording for the Swivl to follow their movement)
Practice recording a lesson 1 - 2 times before your university coordinator visits. This will ensure that you know what to do when you are being observed and to decrease wait time while you set up for recording during your observed lesson.
If you experience any issues with the Swivl and/or iPad, email sara.dempster@nicholls.edu. Include photos of any error messages you receive and explain the issue you are experiencing. It may take some time to resolve any issues that occur. DO NOT wait until the week of your observed lesson to get started with setting up the Swivl.
