Once a candidate has applied for residency, they will receive periodic updates from the Coordinator of Clinical Practice and Residency. Candidates will attend an optional informational meeting about one month after the application deadline. The candidates will attend a mandatory seminar at the end of the semester prior to residency in order to learn more about expectations during residency and to receive their placement letter.
Liaison between the Department of Teacher Education and school districts in which candidates are placed. Communicates regularly with district personnel, principals, and mentor teachers. The coordinator ensures that candidates meet all residency requirements and develop intervention protocol as needed. The coordinator also schedules and hosts seminars throughout the residency semester.
A Nicholls faculty member assigned to support and evaluate each resident. This individual will visit a candidate to observe and evaluate their teaching no less than two times a semester. Candidates will be notified of their University Coordinator at the first seminar of the residency semester.
The classroom teacher a candidate is placed with during residency. The candidate will work with this teacher for 2 semesters to learn more about the daily responsibilities of teaching. The mentor teacher supports the candidate through the development of a variety of skills including classroom management, small group teaching, whole-class teaching, and other aspects of teaching.
