New! Innovation Corner Podcast
This podcast was generated using Google's Notebook LM. Simply upload sources and describe how you want the podcast to be framed. Then, sit back and relax while Notebook LM generates this dynamic media presentation of your resources.
Which of your course or student resources would work well as a podcast? Notebook LM is free with Gemini. Try it out!
Course Blueprints are due in May! No need to fight with spreadsheets... you can quickly create a course blueprint draft with AI tools like ChatGPT. Note: This works best for courses that house all content in Brightspace. Lesson plans or course outlines in other formats will also work.
It's time to start preparing your summer courses! Need help deciding where you want to make updates? Request a Quality Course Review to get feedback from an instructional designer on how you can make adjustments to your courses to improve the learner experience and save you time!
It's Open Education Week! Join a free webinar, workshop, other learning opportunity to learn more about adopting, utilizing, and/or creating OER materials.
Attention Staff & Faculty: Transition your videos by June 30th! As part of the College's efforts to streamline technology services, NICC is retiring Panopto and transitioning to alternative video storage solutions. Take some time to review your Panopto content, download essential videos, and upload them to a new source (DIID recommends the Brightspace Media Library).
The Department of Instructional Innovation and Design is looking for staff and faculty teaching summer courses to pilot Grammarly for Education accounts this summer. The pilot will include accounts for students and employees who participate. In addition to standard grammar support, Grammarly for Education has several other features:
Writing coaching (with originality guardrails)
Writing Process Reports (track origin of copy/pasted material, edit history, time spent, etc.)
Ability to use a consistent tone, style, and voice (for staff and department use)
If you would like to participate in our Grammarly pilot, send an email to online@nicc.edu.
With D2L Lumi, you've been able to leverage artificial intelligence to quickly create module descriptions, generate quiz and practice questions, and develop assignment and discussion prompt ideas. We are excited to announce two new D2L Lumi features that are now available for NICC users to test. Attend our D2L Lumi session on March 20th for details!
In the March update, D2L will introduce rubric level ranges in rubric headings. This will improve clarity for instructors and learners:
Instructors will see rubric level ranges while creating and evaluating rubrics, except for holistic rubrics and non-sequential custom points. These ranges will automatically update based on the values entered in the Points fields.
Learners can view rubric level ranges in assessments, ensuring a clear understanding of point distributions.
For those using New Content Experience (CBE and some others), instructors can now add topic descriptions to set expectations and provide context for learners. These descriptions appear directly on the activity page to guide learners. Additionally, they are visible to the Search bar, enabling learners to find the correct topic more easily. Previously, descriptions were only available in classic Content (which most of you are using currently). Interested in checking out New Content? Reach out to us!
