Google's Notebook LM can now create a video overview of your sources. We used H5P Smart Import to quickly turn that video overview into an interactive experience. Check it out!
You can now find us in the faculty suite, room 136E.Ā

Ever wonder if you're interacting adequately with your online students? Federal regulations require that faculty initiate frequent and consistent, course-related communication with students in distance courses.
The NICC Regular and Substantive Interaction (RSI) Policy for Distance Courses was recently updated to include examples of communication that meets RSI standards, and the expectations of our accreditor, the Higher Learning Commission (HLC).Ā Ā
More information on RSI is available on our Quality Course Design RSI page, and in our QCD Standard #2: Instructor Presence.
Need RSI Ideas? Join us for a Q&A Session!
Tuesday, September 16th | 12:00 p.m. Central | Zoom
We will demystify the federal requirement for Regular and Substantive Interaction (RSI) and provide a toolkit of practical, ready-to-implement strategies. You will learn the core principles of RSI and explore a variety of techniques for fostering meaningful engagement, building community, and providing constructive feedback using Brightspace.Ā
In collaboration with the Learning Center Task Force, we've built an Academic Help module that you can now add to any Brightspace course! The module contains a description of the Learning Center's resources, links for accessing their services, and tutorial videos for utilizing Upswing, their online tutoring and appointment system.
The first of several upgrades to the Brightspace Media Library (ML), you can now organize your videos into folders!
Coming soon... HTML pages will soon be stored and editable from the ML, which means you can update them in one place and have them be current everywhere you use them (i.e. update your instructor contact info once and have it push to all of your courses).Ā
FINALLY! You can now print a physical copy (or PDF) of your Brightspace quizzes. This includes answer keys! Printing a quiz has been a highly anticipated feature request for many years in Brightspace.
Alternative Formats! The new "Alternative Formats" section in the Brightspce Toolbox explains the powerful, built-in accessibility tools available to students in your courses. These tools, Panorama and ReadSpeaker, automatically allow students to convert your course files into alternative formats like audio (MP3s) or have on-screen text read aloud, supporting diverse learning needs with no extra work required from instructors.Ā
Onboarding Learners to Brightspace! The Toolbox now includes a quick tour of the main Brightspace environment, showing students how to navigate confidently in the digital classroom. Students will learn how to use the main menu bars to find their course materials, check for feedback, and access key tools. Over 400 students checked out the Toolbox last weekend!Ā
Homework Help is a recently launched feature that is available to everyone in the Chrome browser.Ā
The feature pops up in Chrome automatically in the address bar when it detects potential use. It utilizes Google Lens.Ā
While Google Lens has been a feature in Chrome for several years, the visibility of it skyrocketed in the past month with the 'Homework Help' message.
Honorlock does NOT currently flag this feature's use. Please be aware of it!
D2L is investigating ways to prevent Homework Help from appearing when browsing Brightspace.Ā
