Unit 4: Geometry and Measurement
Unit Overview: They will also develop an understanding of measurement of mass and volume. Most previously introduced standards will be revisited during this time. We also take advantage of the "Step-Up" textbook workbook pages to prepare our students for 4th grade.
Measurements of liquid, volume, and mass are important in our world.
All people need to be able to solve multi-step problems in everyday life.
MA.PS.1: Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.
MA.3.PS.2: Reason abstractly and quantitatively.
MA.3.PS.3: Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others.
MA.3.PS.4: Model with mathematics.
MA.3.PS.5: Use appropriate tools strategically.
MA.3.PS.6: Attend to precision.
MA.3.PS.7: Look for and make use of structure.
MA.3.PS.8: Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning.
Students are able to use the appropriate tool to measure liquid, volume, mass, and length correctly.
Students are able to read and correctly solve real life problems using more than one math operation.
I can measure and estimate liquid volumes and masses of objects using standard units of grams (g), kilograms (kg), and liters (l).
I can use models to add, subtract, multiply, or divide to solve one-step word problems involving masses or volumes.
