Thank you for your interest in the AIG Program at MCS Noble Middle School. To serve Noble's gifted population we provide AIG cluster classes. These classes are comprised of a majority of AIG identified students, but also have some students that are not identified. Those students that are not identified, but placed in AIG clusters, are not guaranteed placement in years to come. Only students that have AIG identification are guaranteed placement into the clusters each year. I do not have control over which non-identified students are placed in the cluster classes. Dr. Brown determines that based on space, teacher recommendation, EOG and Benchmark scores, and EVAAS data.
Parent Nomination Packets are available at the front office or can be emailed by request at jennifer.waring@nhcs.net. Nomination does not guarantee identification. After the nomination packet is received, the process will begin. The process includes: student being pulled for work samples, student observation, teacher documentation, a team of teachers and staff members evaluation of samples and data, and it is then determined if more testing is required. If so, testing will be administered and the Match Team will meet again to determine if services are needed and identification should be made.
The Gifted Education Specialist is responsible for the proper placement of AIG identified students and required documentation, as well as working with teachers to develop rigorous, enriched and accelerated curriculum. This is done through collaboration in creating lesson plans, pulling resources, creating lessons, units and projects, and through push-in instruction. We do not offer pull out services at this level, however, we offer many extra curricular activities and clubs such as Science Olympiad, MathCounts, Battle of the Books, etc.
Our fall testing windows for AIG this year are November 12-26 for CogAT and November 11-December 19 for ITBS, and our spring testing window is 3-14 for CogAt and February 24- March 28 for ITBS. I am not able to complete the process until after testing was completed. Once the nomination packet is received, the process will begin, but students would not be able to be tested until steps required before the AIG Match Team meets to determine if further data is needed and the student should be administered the CogAt and ITBS. All nominations accepted now that require additional testing to determine identification will be completely processed until the Spring testing window, March 1-31. Only those nominations that began processing last Spring are able to be tested in the coming weeks.
To break down the process of AIG identification in a nutshell:
(1) All NHCS students are giving a screening test in the 3rd grade. Those that score at or above the 90th percentile are then put through the identification process.
(2) Students that do not qualify in the 3rd grade can be nominated by teachers, parents or students themselves at any time.
(3) Once a nomination packet is submitted, classroom teachers and I collect data, conduct observations, etc.
(4) Nominated students complete work samples.
(5) An AIG match team meeting takes place to evaluate students.
(6) If a nominated student does not meet the aptitude portion of the criteria (by scoring 90th percentile on an aptitude test in the last 3 years), but meets 3 of the 4 other criteria (Observational Student Behavior, Aptitude, Performance, Interest & Motivation, and Achievement), they are administered the CogAt and ITBS.
(7) The AIG match team meets again after testing to determine if students have met requirements for identification- a student must score in the 90th percentile or above.
