Challenge-
Intermediate Art is designed for the serious Art student who is interested in strengthening his/her skills and techniques in design problems. Your portfolio work and use of class time will be the bases for your evaluation.
Instructional GOALS for ALL Art Students
1. To become visually literate in speaking and writing about art
2. To gain understanding in solving conceptual design problems.
3. To develop technical skill and strong craftsmanship in drawing and painting
4. To grow and encourage authentic and independent thinking that can be applied to other areas of study.
Student Commitment
1. Willingness to accept a rigorous Academic Curriculum and follow classroom protocol.
2. Willingness to have projects ready at the given deadline
3. Be highly motivated and serious with a strong interest in art
4. Be prepared with supplies and materials for projects.
5. Keep a sketchbook that records ongoing writings and drawings for further investigation
6. Be responsible for your portfolio and cleanup of supplies

Most Projects are accomplished during classtime with a focus on the practical experience of drawing, printmaking and painting problems. These challenges will enhance the student's understanding of art within the history of culture and as a human expression.
Fridays are set aside for learning about art topics, working in sketchbook or class discussions relating to art.
Curriculum
WEEK 1- Neurographic Art Lesson - What is a Neurographic design? Neurographic art is a simple way to work with the subconscious mind through drawing using watercolors and ink pens.
WEEK 2- Notan Study- Understanding the darks and lights of a composition to create a balance of shape and space
WEEK 3- Line drawing using pen and ink of folds in cloth
WEEK 4- Introduction to contour line drawing. Create a composition of dancers using overlapping contour lines to create shape and add color for value.
WEEK 5- Three point perspective drawing in graphite.
WEEK 6- Value Shapes- learning how objects exist in space using the technique of shape and value to create and overlapping composition that demostrates depth.
WEEK 7-Game Piece / Collection Study- observation upclose of objects in a box to create larger than life composition
WEEK 8- Pointallism Animal study in pen and ink.
WEEK 9- Reduction Printing of Insects- Block printing technique using three colors.
WEEK 10-12- Ressearch Artist Project- create a scrapbook artist and their works of art.
WEEK 13-14- Painting in acrylics in the style of the artist you researched
WEEK 15- Presentation of your artists and artwork
WEEK 16- Introduction to Watercolor Landscapes.
WEEK 17- Self Portrait in Pop are Style
WEEK 18- Choice/ Extra time to complete any unfinished projects
