DIABETES
Children with diabetes have the right to accommodations in school as outlined in the Individuals with Disability Education Act(IDEA) section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and Diabetes School Act SB 911 or 2002.
New Hanover County Schools follow these guidelines along with specialized procedures and training of school teachers and staff who work with students with diabetes. Each student has unique needs that can be addressed with our care plan process.
Please call Nurse Tammy at 910 397-1544 x71711 or email tammy.frieberg@nhcs.net to discuss your child's diabetic health care plan. It is important that the school nurse work closely with parents to ensure a smooth delivery of care and open communication between the school and home environment.

SEIZURES
If your child has a seizure disorder, it is best managed at school with an Emergency Care Plan (ECP). If medication is indicated to be used to stop a prolonged seizure, having the medication at school and a physician's order on file will keep your child safe during the school day. Please see the links below for paperwork(prescription medication-physician order) and first aid treatment steps used at our school.
Call or email Nurse Tammy at 910 397-1544 x71711 or tammy.frieberg@nhcs.net to discuss your child's specific needs while at school. Your child's safety is our #1 concern. Medication forms can be faxed to 910 530-6281
