During your first three years of your teaching career, you are considered a Beginning Teacher (BT) in North Carolina.
As a BT in NHCS, you will be assigned a trained mentor at your school to meet with regularly.
Mentors will support you throughout your BT years. They will be available to discuss planning, challenges, concerns, and celebrate successes.
Mentors will provide non-evaluative feedback through walk - throughs to support your professional growth.
Several of our schools also have a Lead Mentor who will facilitate monthly school - based meetings based on the needs of the BTs.
BTSP Specialists are available at the district level to provide additional support and non-evaluative feedback.
BTs will participate in school level and district level professional development designed to support their needs.
All BTs are eligible to participate in Guided Observations. A half day substitute is provided for the BT and BTSP specialist to observe in a veteran teacher's classroom.
Each year NHCS recognizes a Rooke of the Year. The ROY is a second or third year teacher who demonstrates success during their first years of teaching.
All first year teachers will participate in a BT Orientation to introduce them to the system and provide resources for success in the classroom.
