Specials: We will rotate on a "C-B-E"  specials schedule. 

Grading Policy: Missing assignments will be entered in Infinite Campus as a 0% and marked “missing” if they are not turned in when due. This serves as a place holder and indicator that the assignment needs to be submitted. Students will have 2 weeks within an assignments due date to replace the 0. Any assignment received after 10 days of the initial due date will not be accepted and will remain a “0.” Parents are highly encouraged to frequently check student progress on Infinite Campus. Please contact the front office to access your Infinite Campus account.

Absent Work: If a student is absent, all missed assignments should be turned in as soon as possible (within 2 weeks of the original due date) when the student returns in order to ensure timely grading and understanding of any missed material. While we understand that some absences cannot be avoided, there is no substitute for classroom instructional time. With this in mind please schedule doctor’s appointments in the late afternoons or after school hours if possible. If students have an extended absence, missing work will be collected and given to students AFTER they return. All absences are considered “unexcused” unless accompanied by a timely note stating a reason approved by NHCS. (illness of the child, death in the immediate family, court proceedings, or religious observations)

Homework: Homework is assigned weekly and is the student’s responsibility to complete and turn in. Independence is a 4th grade expectation and your child will be held responsible for getting things to and from school (materials, lunch boxes, snacks, homework folders, etc.)

Morning Work: Morning work is not busy work, but important practice that helps shape instruction. Students have time upon arrival in the morning, and during class to work on these assignments. Content related activities will be routinely assigned for morning work and skill assessment. If a student is running late, it is the child’s responsibility to make up for any missed work during his or her free time throughout the day.

Communication: Communication is crucial to a great parent-teacher relationship and a successful school year. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns at any time through Class Dojo or via email.Newsletters will be sent digitally at the beginning of every month through Class Dojo and posted on the 4th grade website. The newsletter contains dates of important events, what we are covering in class, and ideas for helping students at home.

Classroom Management: The majority of our classroom management will be based on the use of Class Dojo. Please make sure you are logged into Class Dojo and that you are reviewing your child’s Dojo consistently.The expectation is for every fourth grade student to make smart and mature choices on a daily basis. As role models for our younger students, it is important that we help preserve the safe and inclusive environment maintained within Carolina Beach Elementary School.

Take Home Folder:  All students will be given a take-home folder. In the back is an attendance chart. Please use this to track your students attendance with the NHCS attendance policy. Inside their folder students will have clear sheet protectors for their monthly calendar & password sheet. Please do not remove these from their folders as these will be needed daily. Folders need to come back-and-forth to school each day. One side of the folder will contain unfinished work and the other side will be for work that can stay at home. Please check this folder daily.

Snacks/ Water Bottles: Students will have the opportunity to eat a small snack during the day due to our late lunch. They are responsible for bringing their own dry snack (no sharing/no candy). Please no gum and avoid bringing messy items. Students should bring a water bottle to reduce trips to the water fountain. To avoid sticky messes if they spill, please make sure water bottles contain water and not other drinks.

Toys/Electronics: All electronics should be left at home, this includes smartwatches. If a student needs a cell phone, tablet, or smartwatch for after school programs or transportation, it is expected that these devices will be left in a book bag and turned off for the duration of the school day. Rubik’s Cubes, Fidget Spinners and Cubes, Tech Decks, Popits, Pokemon cards, and any form of slime are considered toys and may NOT be used in the classroom, unless noted in the student’s IEP or 504 Plan. If a student has any sort of toy out in class, the teacher reserves the right to take the toy and hold it for a parent to collect after school.

Transportation: Please make sure your student knows how they will be going home in the afternoons. If there will be a transportation change please let me and the front office know of any transportation change in advance.
